Christians, would you mind explaining to me why you believe your so-called loving god creates people he knows will go to hell? That's a bit, eh...sick, isn't it - is sending people to be tortured for eternity some form of perverted fetish that he hasnt informed us about, or is there some other explanation.

Ah these daft iron age beliefs, will they die out I wonder.

As far as I'm aware, heaven and hell are not interpreted as literal places, in a worldly sense.

Humans are granted free will, and thus can turn against God; hell is a place without God.

Why not just create people who will not turn against him you ask? Where would be the craic in that?? Clearly God likes to test the faithful anyway, based on the Old Testament.

Also, by my understanding, God's quite temperamental, and throws a few strops and all that during the Old Testament. In the New Testament, Jesus says that God is all loving and everything, but come on, he's obviously gonna say that.

EDIT: For the record, I like to think of the Bible as a pretty awesome experimental novel.

Why don't you post this in the athiest forum rather than fucking shit-stirring, huh? .... oh wait guess that wouldnt be "fun" would it?

We get it. You don't believe in god and think dogma and organised religion are silly. Me too but I also don't see a need for riling and belittling people who have faith, however silly you may find it. If you want to discuss aspects of their faith, you could do so in a much less hostile and goading way.

Apparently the United Left Alliance are telling us we are already in Hell.

Why would I post a thread asking Christians about their beliefs in a forum for atheists? Also couldn't see the Christianity forum allowing open dialogue like this - challenging one of the central pillars of their faith.

    You send yourself to hell.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8

Hell is the ultimate vengeance fantasy for those who believe in it.

Ha ha you're going to be tortured for eternity and I'm going to the happy place.

    Na-na-n-na-naaa.

Fearful? What's the 'logic' with that one?

Wiseman once said: Go to heaven for the climate, hell for the company

    Possibly mt

    NIV version (Modern)

"But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” Revelation 21:8

Your thread would be allowed in the Christianity forum. If you chose your words better than "your so-called loving god" or "some form of perverted fetish that he hasnt informed us about" ... You are sticking a proverbial knife in as you ask a so called "question"

But the same applies to the Athiest forum. If a person of faith created a thread saying "how come you unfaithful sinners" etc. It would be deleted too.... That too would also be shit-stirring.

You can hide behind the illusion of a "question" - In reality, all you are doing is trying to shit-stir :)

Indeed and it gets even dafter than that, harmless and innocent unborn babies (oh yeah make sure to inform the grieving mothers as the church did) go to hell, limbo or whatever the hell else the prophets chose to include in their sci-fi masterpiece the bible. Meanwhile at pearly gates

ST.PETER: So Mr. Hitler you have quiet a record here, ) six million gassed to death, BUT you said sorry and that's all that matters. Come on in, also you'll be delighted to know that all those Jews you killed are getting their just deserts in hell"

Fu&king sick when you think about it

Charming, but that's the concept of divine forgiveness, not hell?

Methinks you're just here to rant?

The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term. The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools off when it expands and heats up when it is compressed) or some variant. One student, however, wrote the following:

"First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate that souls are moving into Hell and the rate they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving.

As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell.

With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added. This gives two possibilities:

    1) If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

    2) If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over. So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year, "...that it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you", and take into account the fact that I still have not succeeded in having an affair with her, then #2 above cannot be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and will not freeze over."

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED THE ONLY "A".

When I first saw this thread I was going to suggest that you ask in the Christianity forum.

Then I read the OP, and I was still going to suggest the Christianity forum but I was going to advise that you re-word your OP if you chose to post there.

Now that I've read the rest of your posts, I've just decided just to lock it and advise that you don't post it in the Christianity forum as you've obviously no interest in a reasonable, polite discussion on the subject.
