    Hi All

thinking of taking a place in Donnycarney, just wondering what it's like. Particularly the roads off Collins avenue east nearest to the church. Any "anti-social" behaviour that goes on, or peti-crime/vandals ? Is there a good "neighbourhood" vibe, or do people tend to keep to themselves ?

Thanks in advance for any feedback

Did you do a search on that topic before posting? I seem to remember a fairly long thread on here within the last year, where someone was asking the very same questions about Donnycarney. A lot of people weighed in with their opinions on the area in general from safety, anti social behaviour, which side of the Malahide Rd was the "best" to live on, transport links, to the best pubs to drink in etc etc. If you do some digging, you'll probably be able to find it.

Thanks for the link ProudDUB, eventually found the thread late last night and had a good read, but was too tired afterwards to reply back to this thread :-) Thanks for all the replies, sounds pretty good which is good to hear

It's not too bad, quite a semi detached and quiet area, the nearest place you'd might get a bit of grief would be Darndale / Clare Hall but there'd be no reason to go up there aside from Tesco.

Plenty of buses into town, Clontarf and Brams Cafe in Marino are nearby, the local pubs might be cliquey and parochial but why bother with boring suburban boozers when towns on your doorstep

Darndale is about 4km away, Clare Hall even further (neither are really that bad tbh). Some of the local pubs include The Beachcomber and Harry Byrnes in Clontarf, neither are cliquey at all, can't speak for the pubs actually in Donnycarney.

If we split it in two, the Donnycarney not on the same side as the church is sound no trouble at all.

The Donnycarney on the side with the church can have it's hot spots but is calm most of the time.

There would be, Craibh Ciaran* , The Ramble Inn and Kitty Kierans maybe the Goblet (more Artane).

Ramble Inn would have a heavy name for trouble. The other ones are fine.

    *Not sure if about spelling..

The Ramble Inn is not "trouble", it's just got a kind of local pub for local people kind of vibe.

Craobh Chiarain is a bleedin kip though, especially the function hall with the leaky roof.

Hi, I see you are thinking of buying a house in Donnycarney. I wouldn't advise it if it's in the so-called posher part - REALLY unfriendly place. If you're going to buy, go and buy down in the Clans, or in the so-called poorer parts where the people are friendly and there's a community spirit.

Have you ever lived up here where there is 'no trouble at all??????'

hi, Did you end up taking the plunge and take the advice of people who probably never lived here and buy in D'carney? Hope you bought down the "poorer" end...don't mind that rubbish about the other end, it's b*****. (I know the two, very well!)

OK, OK - We get the picture - you don't like the 'not-poor-end'.
You can give the sweeping generalisations a rest now.
