Golf Mk3 Electric Windows

    Hi - My Mk3 Golf failed the NCT for drivers side electric window not working. The window is fully up but will not move. When I activate the switch up or down I hear the relay clicking and the lights slightly dim so it is pulling some current. The window does not attempt to move. A new regulator (mechanism) is €180 with the motor or €70 without the motor. i'm wondering if anyone knows if these motors tend to give trouble or is it just the mechanical regulator that is stuck?
    Any help appreciated.
