Sound glitch and vision/sound synch issues with Saorview channels today?

Digifriendly has posted the following in the "Digital Switchover - UTV Region (DigitalUK)" thread:
All channels on Mux 1 from Clermont Carn when tuned in have no sound to begin with and stutter for a moment before picture and sound come into synchronisation. This has been happening from this morning. Anyone else experiencing this and has it got anything to do with Mux 2 testing?

I'm also experiencing this with a Sony EX524 series TV. Reception is from Clermont Carn too. The TV is Saorview approved. It takes 2 to 3 seconds for the sound to come on. Not apparent with an LG (LH2000 series) TV though.

The test channels on MUX 2 are not affected as neither are Freeview and Freeview HD channels. As Digifriendly suggests, something to do with mux 2 testing maybe?

They could be testing a new multiplexer. A multiplexer take lots of difference channels and combines them into one stream for broadcast. There is generally just one unit in Dublin, and then ever other site take the same stream.

Depending on the multiplexer settings it make take longer for a TV just turned on to show a picture or sound. The reason for this is that a whole picture is not sent every time. Only the differences between the current picture and the last picture are sent. Only every so often is a whole new image sent, and then at that point the TV can start to show a picture. Also the better the compression used, the longer the delay between each whole image. Thus it may take a while for the TV to get a whole image. Possibly the testcards are coming from Dublin, along with the normal Mux 1 signals. Depending on the settings it might cause some makes of TVs to display a picture before they really have a full picture ready. Just my guess.

Noticing too that sound/vision synch on RTE1, TV3 and RTE News Now appears to be out.

Picture/sound synch problems continuing tonight. Some Saorview channels are unwatchable. Hopefully will be sorted soon.

    Yip, seem ok now.

But now 3e is gone. TV3 broadcasting at the moment in its place, even though the EPG is saying 3e. Also being broadcast in some squashed letterbox format, as is TV3 that is on channel 3 in the EPG.

3e back now. Plus aspect ratio is ok again.
