Medicine chest very important, animals missing tags another biggie. And if I was asked to print of my profile I wouldnt have ink. let the inspector bring the profile FFS. Also dont commit to allowing the inspector to inspect things that they have to give more notice than 24hrs about. There is a list probably on IFA website that indicates time lags before certain types of inspection. make them play by the rules aswell. If you reckon your up the creek without a paddle for some reason, get your solistor out for a couple of hours. that will sure put the wind up them:D. I would advise to have a third party present, even if it costs a few bob. someone standing beside you knowing the rules inside out is a great help, be it a mate or ag advisor etc. I hear they are being sneeky out this year, for some reason so make them play by the rules. Insist on seeing identification etc and I presume they are give documentation to support their visit to the farm.

Make sure to get a copy of the inspectors report before he leaves the farm. I had an inspection where the report was altered after being on the farm.

They always come here in pairs for some reason, usually a sound guy and an officias *****. Last time I was talking to the sound guy who I used to know when he was a cattle grader and he was just smoking fags and telling me how much of a **** the other guy was:D

R$ancher I see from one of the documents it says under one heading or another

"can be up to 48 hours where such notice does not jeopardize the objective of the inspection"

That to me doesnt sound like they have to give any notice at all and have the right to do as they wish

usually when they come here, they ring to say they are in my yard and where am I? I usually tell them to keep an eye out for the German Shepard as he can strange in his auld ways, only had 4 inspections (2 council/2 dept of ag) so far this year, must mean Im a very good boy

Different inspections have different notice requirements, some of them would be pointless if they gave you notice, I advise people to phone the local IFA office to get informed (even while they're in the yard...make'em wait) and it's a help to have some one with you as well in case

work off farm but have had a few calls from them about calling. When i tell them i'm not around they are usually ok and arangge to meet me when i'm around. One lad call me to say he was in teh yard and where was i, told him i was a work so he said he'd have a "look around so", i told him that i doubt it as the dogs dont like strangers and that the neighbours would be on teh look out for supiscous charthers around due to recent robberies. said he'd call back another time, never heard from him again

It went fine. Came about 10.30 and went around checking cattle and cows in pens. He read them in the pens and checked them off. They were in 4 different places and all were checked. Probably read about 80. Took my herd register and checked the ones we read were on it. Nice fellow and had no problems but I did have everything ok. And the reason I had a inspection was that I hadnt ordered any replacement tags in a long time! Never knew that could trigger an inspection! But I dont really loose a lot of tags and carry a good lot of stock. Still glad its done! Thanks for ever ones help
