Does anyone know if the viewing terrace is still open at Heathrow? I haven't been there in over 12 years but have a 3 hour wait between flights in a couple of weeks so thought I'd try to get a few pics.

    The balcony is closed.
They are views to to had from inside the terminals.
I haven't been in T5 so not sure what it is like from there.

Yes it's closed sadly. If you have a few hours to spare get the tube out one stop to Hatton Cross. Great view of approaches to 27L from there if they happen to be landing on that runway.

Really good views from upstairs in T5, especially from the Concorde lounge where I have had the pleasure of being a few times!

There are some nice views from inside the Terminals 5B and 5C. i had a few hours to wait between flights there back in August, but waiting somewhere like that is pretty enjoyable if you happen to have an interest in aviation!

Some of the views from my time inside Terminal 5B can be seen in this post

i remember years ago, 30 to be precise, going to one of the rooftop car parks, T2 or T3, great views from there . although in this day and age they have probably been closed.

I took this from the set down area of Terminal 5 last year. Its probably the best viewing area left within the airport itself. There are views to be had from the tops of car parks but expect security to move you on before long.

Another nice spot on a fine day is over a pint on a table outside the Kings Arms pub in the nearby village of Longford.

As another poster said, Runway 27L is just a couple of minutes walk from Hatton Cross tube station. The entrance gate to the staff car park is an excellent spot for taking photos of incoming and outgoing aircraft. Especially the 'heavies'. Turn left outside the tube station, look up and you'll find the place no problem.
