Any of his mates know how he's getting on?

Lloyd Irvin sure knows how to create some suspense about the tournament with his facebook posts.

Seems like a great idea getting to fight everyone in it both GI & NoGi. Loving the money moves bonus as well. Oh and what an achievement for Darragh to be selected.

    Best of luck to him

lloyd seems to be a very estute business man though and is trying to reach a wider audience in a way with the social media exposure that he is generating with his reality tv show online. See below

This is a pretty interesting marketing concept thats already proven successful with The Ultimate fighter so why not give it a go. Get the hype going and promoting martial arts in a fun and interesting way.

Lloyd Quote "Darragh from Ireland can choke from crazy angles and catches people in the same choke but they can't stop it"

Everyone has. They have 22 fights over 5 days. Fight everyone in Gi & NoGi. Top 2 at the end of all the matches fight to become the overall winner. From post above I'm going 2 hazard a guess and say he's subbed around 3 of them with the same choke.

There was a quick highlight video put up on facebook where it showed Darragh v Keenan and it looked like it was Keenan who had his back & by the time the camera came back around the match was over so Keenan may have subbed Darragh in that match.

Darragh has indeed fought a few times ,not sure how many or who against, for obvious reasons, Lloyd wants to keep this a secret until he releases the footage. For anyone who follows LLoyd Irvins work, this shouldn't come as a surprise.

Darragh is one of the most determined people I know and by far the best competitor Irish Jiu Jitsu has to offer, so I am sre he will give his best and put Ireland (but more importantly East Coast JIu Jitsu) on the map!

I couldn't possibly have any more respect for Darragh but he is not "far better" than Chris Bowe (for example).
I'm also sure the large amount of time he has spent training in SBG over the last number of years has played a part in his development. This isn't directed at Darragh, it's directed at your comments above.
That aside, I hope he smashes it and comes back with Keenan's head in his luggage.

I never mentioned Chris Bowe or SBG, In any discussion like this there will obviously be bias involved. Mine just happens to be heavily in Darraghs favour. There is far too many factors involved in deciding who is better than who as there is so many different ways to define 'better'.

But I said Darragh is the best competitor we have to offer, I wouldnt think many people wold disagree with that. Surely its fair to say that Darraghs lifestyle and training regimen puts him in a far better position to compete in this format than Chris.

I want to highlight that I have nothing bad to say about Chris Bowe at all, I just have better things to say about Darragh!

Im sure Darragh and Chris would be cringing reading this so we should nip it in the bud and agree to disagree, nothing wrong with a healthy dose of favoritism!

John isn't a full time competitor anymore, Darragh is and Chris isn't.....I don't think he has anything left to prove, be it in a Kumite or anywhere else. He's a coach these days, first and foremost. His full time competitive days are behind him and I don't think it serves anyone well drawing lines in the sand and trying to ascertain who's better than who. It just distracts from the matter at hand - supporting one of our own on a world stage in putting himself, his team and Irish BJJ on the map in a way it hasn't been before.

At an elite level, training full time vs. not training very often makes a huge difference, you don't see the Mendes Bros. showing up to training the odd time for a bit of craic sure

Chris is a lot bigger than darragh, that was a long time ago and its quite clear from your outlook on the matter that yours is an opinion that should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Are you basing your rankings solely on the fact that chris beat darragh in a nogi match last year? Do you follow jiu jitsu at all, have yuo ever trained with darragh, or chris?

delusional nonsense as far as im concerned.

maybe your partner held the darce on a bit long mate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭Chris89

P.S Darragh is quite literally in the Kumite now (quite very literally infact), you might even say he was voted the best brown belt we had to offer in the facebook thread, YOU MIGHT EVEN SAY that the campaign to get him invited was started by two people with whom he is not affiliated.

I assume you don't train fulltime 'darced' so could you beat Darragh then??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭Chris89

Bradford bet arsenal the other night in a penalty shoot out. Are Bradford a better football club than arsenal??

    @darced

Don't mean to be offensive mate but your pretty disconnected from the reality here, as some who trains full time at the moment I think it makes a huge difference and itd be very hard for anyone to compete at an elite level without doing so...

no not at all because i still have alot less experience and nearly half his weight... its just common sense mate, if your puttin far more hours in over a period of time you will probably improve faster theres other factors such as quality of training/training partners, mentality etc. but the point is you cant say chris is definitly better it was over a year ago...

If you are basing your theory that training full time should not make you any better solely on the above, then we can use the same logic to say things like "people called chris will always beat people called darragh" (which I can give a first hand guarantee is not true!).

The problem with this discussion is it is difficult do define who is better at something when we all seem to have a different way of defining "better", some of our opinions are based on experience (on both sides of the discussion) and some of them are extremely skewed and devoid of any real experience in the fields in question.

To say that training full time is no better than training part time shows in my opinion that you have little or no experience in jiu jitsu competition, you are entitled to your opinion but I'm afraid I cant take you seriously at all.

Bad idea to use the guillotine on a zombie. Too much chance of getting your fingers nipped-and then your one of the herd :)

Fair play to Darragh, seems to be doing an awesome job so far!
