Gears aren't working properly after replacing derailleur hanger

    Hi All,

My derailleur hanger snapped in a fall, I got a new one and fitted it. But now my gears aren't working properly, not even close.

I've played around with it quite a bit, the few adjustment points. It will go from the smallest cog on the rear to the largest (not sure if thats shifting up or down :D ), but it doesn't do this smoothly and theres a constant low click.

It won't shift in the other direction (big cog to little cog) at the rear. I've been at it an hour and its driving me nuts, if somethings broken I can't see what, but it seems to far out of whack to simply be adjustment.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks

Undo the cable from the mech and start from scratch.
Re set your limit screws regardless if you think they are ok.
Make sure your shifter is in the 'smallest' cog setting.
wind in your barrel adjuster on the mech till its almost in the whole way. ie screw it in till it wont go any further then uncsrew it about 1.5 turns.
Re-attach the cable and pull as much slackout as possible by hand before locking it down.
Shift you shifter one click and the chain should 'chatter'. unscrew the barrel adjuster till the chain jumps up and it quitley on the second smallest gear.
Now try and drop the chain back onto the smallest gear. If it drops sharp and clean then happy days.
If it doesnt then screw in the adjuster by small amounts till it does.

More than likely the cable has been damaged when the hanger broke, replace the inner and outer cable and see how that goes, if that doesn't work the mech it self may be bent out of shape or the hanger may need aligning, they are very rarely straight when they are new!
