Strong 2nd-hand trailer axle-any recommendations?

My trailer is a single axle, non-factory-made job. Frame looks fine and strong but the 2 wheels are starting to bend outwards and the suspension is max'd under my usual load (about 400kgs). Ther axle and hubs look a bit ancient to me. Could definitely do with replacing.
Any recommendations for a very strong axle that I could use? What should I look for in a breakers yard? The trailer is only a 6x4 but will get get a fair bit of punishment.
I'd be willing to shell out a few hundred, fitting included, for something new with the suspension built-in - any thoughts?

Dyou reckon that would take the weight OK? Jesus, I'll definitely call out to Indespension tomorrow and see what they have...
Last time I called in to those feckers, they told me that if my trailer didn't have the EU regulatory GDW stamp, a garda could fine me 80 euro and give me 2 points. I was a bit pissed off at them TBH cos I asked a Garda about that and he said he knew nothing about that regulation. I figured they were just tryng to upsell me to a new trailer.
Anyway, I'll give them a shout tomorrow and see what they have.
    Thanks for the tip!

They were probably trying to sell you a new trailer!

New trailers have to be type approved and stamped, doesn't apply to older trailers. Same applies to new components so cheap trailers knocked up in a back yard for sale are illegal, one for your own use is fine at the moment.

Having said you're willing to spend a few hundred, wouldn't it be easier to find a replacement trailer with brakes (in case you end up over 750kg)?

If you want to still use an axle you probably want a leaf spring beam axle off the back of a FWD van, shouldn't be that expensive. Or, as ubs69 says, a pair of Indespension units, these go up to 750kg each. http://www.indespension.co.uk/Units-c/w-Hubs.html

Yeah, I'd love to replace it with something I know will last for years (and make it through any regulatory stuff that might come our way in future) but I just can't spare more than a few hundred at the moment and I'm worried my current yoke is on its last legs.
I'll have a chat with indespension tomorrow and see what they say (if it's "buy one of our new trailers or you'll go to jail" I'll have to restrain myself :)
