Ghost Estates

Anyone know if anyone is responsible for stopping squatters etc from claiming adverse possession on unfinished ghost estates or for maintaining the sites so that they will be at least worth something in a few years time

    http://www.independent.ie/business/irish/banks-handing-back-worthless-sites-to-avoid-maintenance-costs-2944588.html

BANKS have begun handing back small numbers of worthless sites to bust developers so that they won't be stuck with the bill for carrying out remedial works on the sites Thursday November 24 2011

    http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/cwausngbcwcw/rss2/

A two-year campaign to enforce the derelict sites act in Kerry’s county town is also targeting unfinished housing sites along with well-established eyesores

But I can't find out anything about steps been carried out to stop adverse possession or theft of copper etc from these sites/buildings

Surely theft is theft regardless of who has responsibility for the property. Whether the property is secure or not the removal of items is still an offence even if the legal owners turn a blind eye to it.

Although it would make for an interesting case if those who claim ownership took a case against the banks or NAMA for neglect in the event of theft or damage while the property is in their custody.

If I lived in a Ghost Estate I would want squatters to move in all over the place.

You tend to find that people who make statements like this are the first to get down to the local politician when an unofficial halting site appears at the end of the road..............................

The reason I'm saying this is that if I lived in a ghost estate I'd prefer to have a squatter/s next door and in every other empty house in the community then for the houses to fall into disrepair and have them become death traps.

    Exactly.
Squatters in a ghost estate will only lead to trouble.

After all, they are hardy the type to register with a local wheely-bin company.

If I hypothetically lived in a ghost estate it wouldnt bother me if none of the houses were occupied.
