So guys, I'm all outta ideas, so here I come.

    I'll start from the start!

A few months back I had pretty bad abdominal pain so I ended up going into James' A&E; I gave the nurse my details over the noise of some inebriated gentleman behind me "graaaaaah geroff me!".

AFTER I gave her my details I saw the sign '6-8 expected hour wait before you will see a doctor'.. on top of that she said "That'll be €100". Well feck that says I! I told her I wasn't hanging around 8 hours and that I'm going home.

She said that there was no charge as I didn't see the doctor and to come back if I felt worse.

A few weeks later, the letters started arriving "Pay €100 or we'll pass the debt onto a collection agency" so I called them up, and explained, and they said it's fine, and now cancelled.

NOW: Letters from the collection agency are coming! I told them that I don't owe money. They don't believe me.

I think it's hilarious that they pass debt off to these scumbag organisations, considering it's a public body.

I can see the HSE motto now.. "We'll fix yer legs, but if you don't pay up, we'll send someone to break them again" :pac:

Are they going to send the viper to my house? Should I round up a posse?!

Call them again, and ask for it in writing. Keep nagging them until they send you a letter or email confirming it's cancelled.

Burn the hospital down. They won't do it again.

Tell them if you knock on my door A&E will be sending them a €100 bill :)

Spoken words mean nothing. Get it in writing from them.

I done the same as about two months ago - saw the nurse, told her my issue (kidney stones) and what is normally required, and was told a doctor would be with me in a few hours time. No way was I sitting out in that waiting room in pain for hours. I have been to James A&E once before, as it is my closest A&E, but my god it is some sh!thole.

I think I still have the receipt, must ring up and see if I can get a refund :D

Was the nurse hot? Tell me you caught a glimpse of her suspenders as she bent over to pick up a pen or something.

FFS MAKE THE STORY MORE EXCITING.

In fairness, Chuck Stone is correct, your story isn't very exciting, can you not liven it up a bit? This is After Hours after all.

.....best advice is to do it now while you still have 1 page of posts.

Well your appendix will probably burst soon so I wouldn't worry about it - your death will come before you have to repay your debt.

I had a similar problem. I was giving a number for someone who deals with bills at St. James'... I can't find the number for you, sorry.
Basically they made a few phone calls and then called me back apologising and said there had been an error. Never heard from the debt collectors again and the hospital issued an apology and offered compensation for costs (which I turned down).

photocopy 2 €50 notes and post them to the agency then send a letter every single day looking for a receipt. They'll soon learn their lesson and never bother you again. If they send more letters in the mean time send them back with "not known at this address" written on them and tell them you are a trained killer and you WILL use your acquired skills to hunt them down and kill them.
