Already today I have seen two threads on what's the fastest you have travelled. So thought I would start my own, but in this case, its what's the fastest you have travelled unmotorised. i.e., without any kind of engine, just using your own body, or gravity.

Mine is 84kph, or 52mph. Was on an aluminumum framed road bike, 1.75cm wide wheels, cycling as fast as I could bravely do, down a few mile long hill. Feathering the brakes at times, clamping the top tube with my knees to reduce the speed wobbles, and praying the cyclists ahead of me did not veer into my path.

Was a little miffed when I discovered that my friend who had completed the course, not only 10 minutes ahead of me, also clocked 2kph quicker than me down the same hill, on a carbon frame.

I managed 137 mph down a hill on a home made kart with pram wheels which was steered with a bit of rope tied onto either side of the front axle (bit of wood).

18.5miles/sec, the speed of the earth round the sun.

I'm currently traveling at this speed from the comfort of my sofa.
A far more pleasant experience than a road bike or the wing strut of a plane.

mine went at 138mph (NB: I am prepared to repeat the run, take an average speed across a second run also and have this verified for the guinness book of records)

After a heavy sociable night out, I was in a shopping centre the next day minding my own business when a dose of the downtown pushdowns overtook me and I found myself touching cloth.

Now it wasn't clocked by a calibrated speedometer, however I reckon it was a landspeed record to get up one flights of stairs and an escalator to the jacks whilst only walking from the knees down.

The last thing I remember was 35kph on the speedometer before I went over the handlebars of my mountain bike when I wedged the front wheel under the front bumper of a parked opel corsa!

I was cycling back to work in a hurry and wanted to see what the bike could do, staring at the speedometer with a pair of chocolate spread sandwiches in my hand.

I hit the windscreen of the car and burst my chin open. I pulled the bike out from under the car and sped on, thinking God only knows what the owner is going to think when he comes out and sees his windscreen covered in what looked like blood and fecal matter!

I had a bowel motion that was faster than the spotted of light once.

Never got time to drop the drawers nor turn the bathroom light on.

I just grabbed the bike and pedalled off as fast as my little legs could go, it was one of them raleigh activator II types with the supposedly "superior suspension". I think there was one slice of bread on the windscreen but I wasn't sticking around to inspect the damage! :o
