So the dog managed to chew halfway through the pasenger seat belt of my 5 dr 01 golf. Ive got a replacement assembly from a breakers and have fitted it.

Thing is it won't slide out and is locked up. I played around with the old seatbelt assy and it locks up unless it's aligned the way it would be when in the car. no matter how i align the replacement one it remains jammed/

Presume this is so you're restrained if the car flips or something

ANyways does anyone have any experience of this or what i need to do to get the seatbelt moving. it will retract alright, but not go the other way

    many thanks

got it.just needed a bit more playing round with to get it into the right position and it's going free as a daisy now.

if anyone's ever doing a replacement be sure to disconnect the battery beforehand and don't reconnect until the new belt is connected up electrially and in place

and don't let your dog sit in the front seat :-)
