Remember this was €50 in a Dublin garage for me about 2 years ago and which was the going rate going by other garages in different parts of Dublin.

What's the going rate now for new oil fill and filters changed etc.? Has it come down at all?

50 euro is a excellent price for an oil and filter change imo. I would spend about 40 euro to do my own. Theirs a ford garage near me doing a oil and filter change on any car for 109 euro. you would be doing extremely good to get it done for anywhere near 50 euro.

Fastfit do an oil and filter for €79. They call it a "basic service" so you also get a health checkover on the the car included in the price which is nice. its only basic but grand for the money.

Without knowing the make and model it would be difficult to give a figure, different engines use different grades of oil so the price will vary. I'd always go with the correct grade recommended for your engine by the manufacturer rather than the cheapest available.

Any car? Not M cars or the like... Sure they would be losing money at that rate.

Say €30 approx for Standard 10/40 oil...€10 approx For standard filter or a bit more for paper filters! and optional diesel fuel filter if need €20 approx!

So that's €40 and if you can do it yourself thats the cost of a cuppa :D

You can buy complete tool sets for 150 odd and are perfect for standard servicing.....May seem a lot but 150 is 2 services (just labour) so you could save yourself a whole heap.

Thought a mate of mine how to service his diesel volvo and petrol merc and its saved him a fortune ** Volvo charged €300+ and merc charged €400+:eek:

The Bugatti Veyron owners would be getting a cheap service at that rate

It was on a small flip board style sign on the side of the road. It fact it actually said "any car serviced for only €109 ". My father rang about the offer and was told it was a basic lubrication service ie. oil and filter. It probably only includes a max of 5 liters of semi synthetic.

OP if your anyway handy with a spanner doing your own oil is not anyway difficult, have a look at this excellent tread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055422868

Ah yes the old "get you in the door" service price.

Anything below €100 should be treated with suspicion. If you have the right car and have checked the oil they will use you might be getting a deal, but more often you will be stitched up by small print.

Equally though, there's nothing stopping a service at double that price using the same oil!

    Where are they cena?

Also, is it risky to just fill up the oil myself without doing the rest?

What car do you have? The price of oil will vary hugely depending on your car as stated earlier.

What do you mean by just fill up the oil yourself ? If you can change the oil you can easily do the air filter, plugs ect.

You need to empty the old oil first... unless you're just topping up between services.

Cant just fill it up with new oil. You need to drain the old oil out of the engine, remove the filter, fit new filter, replace sump washer/nut, fill engine with required amount in owners manual, run engine for a bit, top up with a small bit as required.

Just filling up with new oil means still crap oil circulating through. Also no point in changing oil and not filter as again you are leaving bad stuff in there to circulate.

I wouldn't let advance shítstop change a bulb tbh

10W40 oil will be used to replace oil. If your vehicle requires another type of oil, an additional surcharge may apply - please contact chosen branch for more information

I know very little about cars, including what oil should be used. I drive a diesel Gold and was thinking maybe that a different type of oil might have to be used, pushing up the price. I take it that its not a good deal then!

A pal has a VW Toureg 2.5TDI. He says an oil and filter change in it (with proper spec oil) is horrendously expensive, even in the UK.

It apparently takes an awful lot of very expensive lubricant.
