JobBridge - Bridging what??

I'm usually all for these opportunities, it's something to put on the C.V., it's a job to go to, it should keep your brain active lol, and a myriad of other good things hopefully, development and growth etc., but the other day I came across an Intern. position requiring C.I.P.D. membership, today I came across an Intern. position requiring a B.A. / B.Ed., last week, a Company was looking for an Intern with a Social Care Degree!!! Like I mean, somebody doing something such as a Social Care Degree, they have every right and intention to seek a full-time full-paid job out of it. Is there anyone else that thinks these ideas/ideals are ridiculous?!? Fair enough, skill requirements to be that area/industry-minded and focused and have a specialized interest in it would be just cause, but all these other requirements need to be re-examined i.m.o. Or am I completely off here?

This to me totally highlights the FACT that these Internships aren't being used for their intended purpose, ie training someone. A standard Company requesting a Graduate Intern. would get Graduate's applications, but this would be known by both parties from the outset that it's a GRADUATE Internship, and that's the intention of it. But with all these supposedly general JobBridge Internships, if they're mostly all seeking educational requirements, to me it sounds like this really is un-deniable blatant clear proof that they have zero interest in taking on a trainee and training them in, when they eliminate people who don't have these educational requirements in the first place!! It's madness.

My right to apply for any sort of a general JobBridge Internship to gain experience and for hands-on training becomes null and void and isn't being upheld in any way shape or form when there's a hidden underlying stipulation there that I have to be pre-qualified. Granted some of these Positions being sought looking for JobBridge Interns may indeed quite rightly require prior qualifications and experience to carry out the role from the word go but really and truly this means that they are not Intern positions at all really, but that's more of the same in that, the Employer is trying to take un-entitled advantage of a role that is supposed to be in-training and use an Intern for a job requiring a qualification.

I'm not dissing any of these Initiatives or Schemes at all here. I'm in no way just trying to make up excuses before I've even tried them or just knocking them for the sake of it. I want them to be utilized fully in the way they should and help and benefit people. I'm all for them working out and being put to the best possible use, but it's pretty clear from what I can see that it just looks really really bad for the Country that this is the set-up, but I feel if it was re-jigged that it might work. Using might very loosely there lol but anything is worth a try I guess. :/

So, am just totally curious do you think the JobBridge Initiative should be looked at again and categorized accordingly to Graduate Intern positions and Non-Graduate Internship positions?

Would the JobBridge Internship Scheme work better if it was set-up differently? 9 votes

Yes, a new Set-up categorizing Grad. And Non-Grad. may work.

No, a new Set-up wouldn’t work at all. It’s not worth the hassle to set up a new JobBridge system.

The current JobBridge Initiative works fine in my opinion.

Its fine having qualifications but they dont prepare you for the real world.

I've just done a degree and on JB. I've learnt more in 6 months than did in college and am currently in discussions about a full time job.
