With the ongoing bashing of the Clonakilty M HM and 6m, will this affect people's opinion of the event?
Which races that received negative press here have people chosen not to do in future years?

    My three:

    Limerick marathon
    Railway run (carrigaline)
    (and now) Clonakilty M HM

Nice idea for a thread.... I bet some organisers would prefer different.

Granted the 'what are the key influences in picking a race' has been done before but how reactionary people are to poor races is interesting.

Like JFH says, "agree about limerick, but will do it as it on the doorstep, it's improving ". I'd definitely feel the same about a local run.

Rás Bóthair 5 mile, Cork again. The fun run that thought it was a road race without times and placings :)http://tinyurl.com/cv6bus7

You guys need to explain what's so bad about a particular race, otherwise this thread is completely useless.

Bay run - Bantry, very expensive, has water station run by primary school children scooping water from dirty household bins that have been washed out but you can still taste it. The clock at the end was out by over a min and 30 secs this year. The main thing is this http://www.bayrun.ie/index.cfm/page/sponsors The charity raising is making a donation to each of the groups that run the water stations like school, scouts etc. The dropped this money from 1000 to 500 euro this year. This is much cheaper than actually paying people to do this rather than having small children in harms way at water stations. The remainder of the money they help raise is what people raise for sponsorship on the victim charity of the day that they post out with the race pack a card for this. They donate none of the huge profits that they make from the race to charity and taking credit for other people working for less than minimum wage and raising money for charity to put a farse of a race on open roads ain't worth the 50 euro they ask for it. It was the first and last race that I will raise money for charity. Credit where credit is due the people running the water stations are doing their best but they is little direction given to them. There is the minimum amount of people hired on the day to carry out this even.

I am not against for profit races but they need to do it professionally if they are going to charge 50 euro.

Well my original post asked "what races that received negative press here have people chosen not to do in future years".
So I am basing my 3 decisions on the how these races were rated/appraised/criticised on this forum.

I guess this was an effort to let race organisers (who may or may not lurk here) see that a largely negative feedback on this credible forum will have knock-on effects with certain people choosing not to participate in the event going forward.

Myself, my wife and a friend did the Cupid Dash last Sunday. Route was bland and demoralizing as you could see an expance of wet sand. Facilities were 2 portaloo and a cup of tea for all entrants. When compared to similar events in Phoenix park or Marley Park this years Cupids Dash was very poor. Add to that the location was in a notorious crime black spot. I know at least 3 cars were broken into. Not exactly a 'fun run'

Has to be the graded meets. I mean the scenery is incredibly boring, the route dull and unimaginative, no water stations along the way, no medals for finishing, and no goodie bag, or even a cup of tae or some sambos at the end! Not acceptable.

Did it two years ago and it was short...

I know there were issues with it last year too..

To be fair, the entire park seems to be a crime black spot these days, a lot of reports to club mailing list of car issues and also of same problem in Dunore car park at a thing last weekend. Cops think its just young fella's looking for easy things to nick from cars - but catching them is another thing..

Don't think it was in the park this year. Didn't they opt for the beach?

Is there any actual evidence of this? Possible to list the incidents?

Cupids Dash in the phoenix park was a disaster 3 years ago, wouldn't even admit to the issue until i called his bluffed.

Yes the course they measure was 10k but we didnt run the full course!!

They also advertised the goody bag was worth over a 100 euro which was correct as there was 2 vouchers for their shop of 50 euro each. But the problem was they didn't tell you that on the day u were collecting the bag and buying stuff in the shop.

I haven't been back there since then.
