    Hi,

So I'm going to Kong Kong for 5 months studying and want to see the real china and also pick up a few bargain on the way. I hear HK in the most expensive place in China, any know of any place relatively close to HK that i could visit for some great bargain shopping? When i say close i mean less than 4 hours away..

    Thanks

Was in Hong Kong a few years ago, we went to a city called Shenzhe( 1 hour by mtr subway) which borders Hong Kong spent a night in Guangzhou( 2h by train) .....it's a real experience we really enjoyed it!!!

Never been to China but I've done a lot of business with Chinese wholesalers for electrical goods/parts. The two cities mentioned above are where most of my dealings were.

Guangzhou is an enormous city, one of China's largest so it's difficult to get your bearings. I've spent a few weeks there on and off and still haven't seen much of it. The metro is a good reference point but even that's growing all the time. It's well worth a visit though as it's steeped in history and quite a lot of the older buildings are still standing. Eating there is an adventure in itself.

Shenzhen is almost entirely modern - it was a village not too long ago. If you're looking for cheap electronics you won't be disappointed.
