I am currently working part time and getting part time JSA.

I have been offered a part-time job to start in january which will offer me better hours and pay and allow me to continue getting part time JSA.

However due to shift clashes I would not be able to work both jobs together.

My question is if I quit the job i'm in now and take this new job will social welfare be alright with this as I am simply changing jobs and still fit their criteria?

    Thanks.

It shouldnt be a problem...obviously you are supposed to be looking for full time work but if you are working the same number of days as you are now it will not be a problem...in view of the fact that your earnings will increase you need to notify sw of this so that your means can be re-assessed to reflect your increase in earnings as jsa is a means tested payment.

If your new job is 3x12 hrs shifts you will not receive anything from sw as this is considered full time work.

The Part Time Jobs Incentive Scheme may be of some use to you. It allows certain long term unemployed people work up to 24 hours per week over any shift pattern earning any amount. Single people who are eligible retain a payment of 119 euro and an eligible couple payment get 193 euro. There are no other benefits retained other than medical card, you can apply for FIS.

thank you. i have been on JA for the right amount of time but do not get over €119 because of my age so i dont think i qualify for it.

You'd imagine the DSP would have a reduced rate payment providing some support for young people but unfortunately they don't.... i don't understand it myself especially with the rates of youth unemployment.

Anyway best of luck in your new position, hopefully something more will come of it.

This scheme would not apply in OPs situation as he is going from one part time job to another the scheme only applies to fully unemployed people.

It wouldn't apply anyway as I do not receive over €119 as a payment because of my age.
Thanks for your help its good to know I can change employment without any hassle.
