If you're going to pay €900 odd a year to tax it, might as well get yourself a 525i which is another €100 on top, I think. Will be usefully faster and should do the same on fuel.

Nice car at good price. Getting plenty of bang for your buck. Had an 06 model myself up to three months ago. Parts are killer prices.

Only thing I'd say is be weary of dealers on Naas road. Do the cartell and get a mechanic to inspect! Best of luck

heres another one , a bit higher milage

then again in january it may be cheaper again , some of them come with tax so getting lets say 3months would be handy and then 3months on and 3off ;)

the spec is very good! i dont see the issue with the leather that the others are talking about, I just think its the way the light is reflecting off it! Op make sure you get any car checked prior to purchase, I would recommend Gary Doyle in Chelmsford motors or Bloomfield motors, both bmw specialists. by 2004 that engine was around for several years and is very reliable, there is nothing major to worry about with these cars i.e. no major issues like possible subframe failure on E46...

Get a M-Sport model if you can, worth it for the seats, wheels and finishing kit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 94 ✭✭transam

m-sport would be ideal , thats true , i'm in no major hurry , might wait until new year and see whats around, a lot of them come with tax for few months so not too bad , theres a lot of them around and its good value for money, cash is king so i will bargain like mad , i always liked the E60...

they are a serious amount of car for the money! bear in mind that if you get a 523, which replaced the 520 some stage in 2005, that its a 2.5L engine and only puts out a few more hp than the 520.

But it is a six pot, was the 520 a 4?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,262 ✭✭✭✭Idbatterim

no the 520 petrol was also a 6 pot. Tax for 2.2L is now E951 for the 2.5L its E1080. Get an m sport bumper in the same colour from ebay.co.uk and throw on set of mv2's and you wuold have seriously good looking car...

i was looking at ebay for mpack bits , good idea , i heard that the 2.1 engine in 520 got replaced by a 2liter in 2007-08 ?? is that true??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,411 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

A SE with a M Sport front bumper will just look silly imo. The M Sport has a lowered suspension, deeper side skirts and diffuser built into the rear bumper. To do it properly it will cost alot of money, probably cheaper to buy a genuine M Sport at this stage.

No, the 2.1 engine got replaced with a 2.5L instead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,262 ✭✭✭✭Idbatterim

some people prefer the SE the m sport can be a harsh ride on irish roads, I could be wrong, but I dont think the m sports made an appearance until 2005. The only 2 litre in a 5 series was the 520d which was available from 2005 on... I just checked the cheapest m sports from dealers on carzone and they are asking 10k, with 120k miles on them.

I agree an msport is better looking, and i drive an m sport, but nearly 100% of the improvement looks wise for me is from the front bumper... depends on the Op's budget... same car in m sport in 05, with similar mileage, will be about 5k more...
