So, this new event has been announced, with about 15 sports set to support it, but NOT Athletics.

So, what's your opinion on this? Yet another pointless competition (especially since the usual centrepiece will be missing), championed, unsurprisingly, by our own Paddy Hickey. His conceit knows no bounds and I think this 'thing' will fall flat on its face.

I sincerely hope European Athletics stays out of this. They've already done enough to ruin the prestige of the European Championships by holding that shambolic event in Helsinki this year, without adding yet another one!

Old thread, but this re-appeared in today's Six One News, with Katie Taylor and Paddy Barnes interviewed. I am interested in the novelty of this thing. What does this mean? Is it a consolidation of everything, to be a mini European Olympics? How often will it be held?

I wouldn't like to see fixture congestion, I would like to see quality competitive events. What will the better athletes do, will they scrap this to prioritise higher priority tournaments? How prestigious will it be, or will it be another Commonwealth Games?

What will happen to the existing European Outdoor Athletics Championships, or even the European BMX Championships (is there such an event?), will they be scrapped and consolidated into this new bigger fish?

Zombie thread! I'd forgotten all about this (and I started the thread!).

Supposedly, the European Olympics will take part every 4 years, beginning 2015. There is no Athletics as part of this first edition, so there will be no athletes present, except as noted below. :pac:

The European Athletics team championships 3rd league will happen during the games. Azerbaijan will host this and it was agreed to have it during the EO, but it will not be officially a part of the EO. Only the following nations will participate [in the Athletics]:

Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Israel, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, San Marino, Slovakia.
