Can anyone settle a bet for me

    Hello all.

I have a bet for the easiest tenner I'll ever make with a friend of mine here who's studying equine science. He reckons Galileo is standing at 22k this year :pac: I told him it was 300 and he says that Frankel is the most expensive in the UK and Ireland. I know it's listed as private but can anyone settle this argument.

    Thank you

I was quietly enjoying a nice crate prior to having a rendezvous with my pals in town. The lad who said it was at the house he was giving me a lift.

Do not. It was he who suggested the bet, I was just celebrating my biggest ever win, 500 euro fourfold-Zambia under 17 girl's to win, Money Maker at Lucksin, T3 7.03 Romford and Italy to beat Brazil virtual soccer. Couldn't see any getting done

    22k for a visit to Galileo?? :D:D

I reckon your buddy can strike off his chances of ever getting a job with Coolmore if/when he graduates ;)

The chap isn't as wrong as people hear assume, as Galileo may once indeed have had a stud value close enough to 22k. That was back when Jim Bolger started sending all his mares to be covered & produced gems like New Approach & Teofilio, made himself millions & pushed Galileo's fee up to where it is now. Shows the true genius of Bolger & the fact that coolmore dont know it all - think of all the great horses they missed out on by initially underestimating how good Galileo would be!

Frankle £125k, which was made public a month or so ago. Galileo marked "private", but mooted at €300k. Hard to verify that figure but wouldnt be surprised given how successful he has been at stud and with an unproven stallion in frankle commanding £125k, this adds credibility to that €300k figure. So there should be no doubt as to the most expensive sire in irl/ uk. The only question that remains to be answered is how you intend to spend that €10?!

    You'll never win that bet.

He should get his mate to ring Coolmore and tell them he will give them 25k for a cover.

Ha. And ask if he can pay it in monthly installments over 12 years.

    Coolmore never underestimated Galileo.

Galileo was retired to Stud for 50k. This was and still is today a reasonable sum to price a horse of his ability going to stud. The reason you put a reasonably low valuation is to entice breeders to send mares to an unproven stallion. Montjeu was initially priced at a similar fee as has nearly every stallion Coolmore have retired.

Jim Bolger sent multiple mares to Galileo for this very reason ;)

Urban Galileos current cost at stud is reputed to cost in the region of €300k+ but it is a private fee and it will not be published anywhere.

Below is his published fee since he retired.

Informative post faoile@an. I am very much a novice on breeding rights & stud values, so happy to be corrected on that point. Still, I'm not minded to downplay the initiative Bolger showed in sending his mares to be covered by Galileo, obviously it was the low price that attracted him partly but it was a gamble too that if it hadn't come off would probably have broken him. Seem to remember Bolger had taken a punt on an earlier Coolmore stallion (Last Tycoon maybe?) that cost him a fortune & left him in the doldrums for a few years. I wonder if Bolger hadn't come up with the idea of using Galileo, what precisely his stud fee would be now?

That's going to do my nut in I can't remember the name of that stallion. Was it not an American one? (or American bred)

It was the Last Tycoon. I think I remember the name from that doco done on Bolger a coupla years ago
