Hotbird signal and Bluetooth interference

    HI All

    Weird problem.

I have Hotbird fed into my HTPC to get the polish FTA channels and have found that the Bluetooth dongle I am using, A belkin 100m usb one, is causing the Hotbird chanels to pixelate like mad. When not using the wireless bluetooth keyboard they are fine but as soon as I do anything on the keyboard it pixelates like mad. I dont seem to have this trouble with the channels off astra which come down the same cable from the attic where I have a DISEQC switch.

I didnt have this problem with the tiny dongle I used previously but the range on that was so bad I couldn't use it from the couch.

So....Is it a known issue for bluetooth to interfere with hotbird sat feeds and if so, is there anything I can do about it?

Bluetooth uses frequencies in the 2400 MHz band: satellite IF between lnb & receiver is about 950 - 2150 MHz.

Maybe the more powerful Belkin device produces excessive out-of-band radiation & if the Hotbird signal is weaker than Astra, say from an offset lnb, it will be more susceptible to this interference.

Where the interference ingress is located is another matter.

Belkin just rebadge stuff, could be anything inside it.
You are paying for the "Brand" name and the fancy box.

(one model of Belkin wifi adaptor I had used five different chipsets - you had to check the serial number to work out if it was worth using in Linux )

Get a usb extension cable - or hub so you can relocate the dongle further away , check if there is a power setting in the driver, and reduce it.

    move / relocate the cables

Hotbird / astra use the same band so identical - check signal strength to see if much difference - check frequency too if only affecting one channel
