A new original wii still seems to around 140 new.
Will it be a dodo by this time next year?
I was hoping it would come down in price more for xmas
Also bit worried about the kids breaking the tv with throwing the controllers!

Personally, I believe the Wii has a lot to offer, particularly if it's for young kids. You can easily pick up a console in good condition second hand for about €50-€70 I'd say. Adverts would probably be a good option for a used console.

Although there may not be many new titles in the coming years, there are still countless timeless classics available for Wii.

As long as you ensure the kids fasten the wrist straps, then you shouldn't have any problem regarding TV damage.

Echoing Robman's post, even if not many new games get made for the wii, which is likely, there are more than enough to keep it worth having for years. I have mine since day one, and there are still a good few games I wouldn't mind getting for it. (although admittedly I can't afford to buy games as often as some).

Hopefully the price will dip a bit pre Christmas. There won't be any problem getting wii remotes down the line if needed as they can still be used with the Wii U.

thanks guys, which one is better, mario cart or the sports\party?

Mario Kart. Endlessly fun, in both single player and multiplayer, simple controls, particularly if you use the Wii wheel (included with the game) and great for family. Should be ideal at Christmas time when family members will be around too.

I personally find Mario Party games repetitive with limited playability. I haven't played much of Mario Sports Mix, although I didn't find it too impressive while I was playing.

I think it's unlikely that the retail price will fall this close to Christmas now, so I'll reiterate what I said previously regarding cheap second-hand consoles. You'd probably pick one up with a couple of games for €80-€100.

My kids like wii party, better game than Mario party 8 anyway. Can't go wrong with Mario Kart. New super Mario Bros. is a good laugh with a few playing too.

    definitely

and the wii doesn't seem to pack up like the other consoles

it's the only one of the 3 that hasn't failed on me yet

Down the years I've thrown far more regular controllers at the TV than Wii Remotes.

    Going to see it tomorrow.
Not as cheap as I would like - a new system costs 140, but it comes with 2 controllers and 2 remotes and they seem expensive to buy - 50 euro for a new one

Maybe try bargaining down to €100. I wouldn't rate those games too highly, and it's easier to haggle when you're close to a nice round figure! :)

Also, they said "all accessories" but I don't see a guitar, mic, balance board, drum kit, pistol grip, tap box, fishing rod, light sabre, extendable pool cue, keyboard (music), keyboard (typing), rifle grip, etc. mentioned. Call them on the lie and ask for a tenner off!

they're only asking for 110, and you want all that, plus consoles & games....My experience on adverts.ie is that you get what you pay for, and should not expect unrealistic prices. Banjo, I hope I never get a call from you trying to buy something I am selling!

Going to wait until the new year. A new one is "only" 30 euro more and I reckon they will drop in price after xmas.
Its just getting the extra remote cheap enough

You can get one year insured consoles at gamestop for 70 euro. The point is, after you get all the controllers and everything else, it all adds up. This is a good deal, in my humble opinion....

It's not a bad deal, I agree, but the Wii now has a successor and it's not exactly in high demand.

@Sgt Pepper: Holding out mightn't be a bad idea. I certainly wouldn't pay in excess of €100 for that bundle on Adverts.

No your right, it wasnt the deal I wanted and theres a good few out there.
If I dont rush I should find something better than an 18 month one for near the same cost of a new one!
Theres plenty of consoles, its the remotes etc that add to the cost.
Sellers need to cop on that the resale value has dropped quite a bit
    I can wait!

If you want a cheap controller just for using every now and then, as an extra, the cheap knock offs from Chinese stores like dealextreme do an OK job. Not a patch on genuine Nintendo but you can get a motion plus controller with Nunchuk for under 15 euro delivered, and there's a standard red one on there for just over 11 euro. Not a hope of getting it before Christmas though! My kids have used the cheapo ones and they have tolerated them from time to time. The reviews give you an idea of the drawbacks on them.

Does that not lead to fights over who gets the proper one during multiplayer?

Competitive dad meant I always got the genuine one!!! Actually they were of an age where the colour was more important than anything, so a nice blue one and nice pink one won out over the quality. Actually apart from when you are pointing at screen, they work ok. Buttons all solid enough, they seem to shut off quickly when not in use though.

i think i'd prefer a used official controller to a new clone remote
based on my experience of them

Oh so would I, don't think I gave the impression that the cheap knock offs were as good as the genuine ones.
