writing data cd

    I am trying to write a data cd, but my laptop keeps on opening media player and no longer comes up with the pop-up menu when I insert a blank disc. When I try to copy the files manually the disc doesn't end up 'finalised' so I cannot use the files on another computer, which is the whole point of the operation. I've wasted a number of discs, please can anyone help.
