Hi... I have been a long time reading on Boards.ie in this section as of late since I started running back in July.
I have gotten up to a steady pace over 12 miles, I wont break any records or win any races but I enjoy Running. I run up to 4 nights a week.

When I started I bought a pair of cheap asics shoes and was fine for awhile in them, that was until I believe the cushioning went in them?
So I went and got my gait analysed in an Elverys, they told me I was over pronating? or something.. my arch collapses. The staff member also did a static test on me and told me these footbalance insoles would help. The staff member also suggested I get a 2170 asics shoe, which I did.
This was the start of november and I have been having trouble since. I went back and another staff member told me that I needed to break them in. Its been nearly 5 weeks now and my training has been affected because of this.

I have been to the physio also because of the pain I am in. And told me to throw out the insoles because they where no good and I didnt need them in my supported shoes.
Why would they sell me insoles that my physio now tells me I dont need when my runners support me already? I spent nearly 200 euro on runners and insoles and nearly the same amount on the physio, Not what you need when coming up to christmas.
Has anyone else had this happen to them or am I the only one?

Elverys have tried to rip you off with this insole rubbish. You are not the first one and won't be the last. Bring the insoles back, explain your story and demand a refund.

Elverys is more a fashion shop than a running shop. Get yourself to amphibian king in bray or ballymount.

I am in the exact same boat as you. I started running back in April as I needed a new sport after quitting soccer. I had a cheap pair of Nike that i used for the first few months and was running 10km about 3-4 days a week. Shoes felt fine to start but in September I felt it was time to get a new pair. Went to one Elverys and they did a gait analysis. They also did a static test and moulded insoles to my foot.

They said I over pronated and recommended a pair of Asics 3030. The assistant said that the shoes and the insoles would do they job. I tried the shoes and insoles out and they were fine for the first month but I started to have a problem with sole of my foot and my achilles. I went back and was told the exact same thing and that i needed to break them in.

My injury just got worse and eventually I needed to go to see a physio. He told me that I had developed Achilles Tendonitis and the shoes and insoles were all wrong and that I needed a neutral shoe. I haven't run since the middle of October and have spent 650 euro on the shoes, insoles, physio and sports massage.

How are these people able to get away with this and is there anything I can do?

The like of Elverys are more of a fashion sports store and just want the sale. First thing to do is try get your money back. If you are looking at getting serious into running and want some proper advice go to Amphibian King or Runways. They are all runners with experience and will give you advice on gear and training. Hope you can get back out running soon

Thanks for the reply, I work in town so it was an easy option for me. I did not think it would make a huge difference where I got my shoes. I will be heading to Runways this week as its closer to me than Amphibian King.
    Thanks very much.
