I just noticed tonight a small tear no my rear tire, i have attached some pics! Its only a couple of mm wide, but Im a bit worried it might widen on me and end up bursting the tube! I have to cycle around 20km on it in the morning, would it be ok to ride on it till them, i can replace the tire after if it needs be! Just not too sure what do cause its never happened me before! Any advice would be great

    thanks

Make sure there is no glass etc in there, apply superglue, deflate tyre, allow to dry. I find this prolongs tyres very well. May work, may not, worth a try.

    That's a big 'un!

Try the glue having cleaned her out while deflated. A replacement may be sooner around the corner than you think!

I had 2 cuts in 2 tyres like that.
I had a wrecked vittoria that I cut a small patch and glued it on the inside of the tyre where the cut is. So far it has done the trick. I make sure the pressure is at 90psi on the 25c and 100 psi on the 23c.
If the tyre is on the back wheel then switch it to the front as there is less weight on the front.
I carry a €5 note all the time so if the tyre does give out puttng the 5er where the cut is will get you home.

    You mean you dont?

Believe me there are very few things you can do if a tyre gives way. If you are in the middle of the country side you have a long walk home but if you can put a at patch on the tyre at least you can get home.
happened to a girl on the club spin a few weeks back. Worked at treat and she finished the spin.

Recycle an old inner tube. Cut out a few strips of rubber and use them as temp tyre patches. This way u can use your €5 for cake! :)

I wouldn't be too happy moving a gashed tyre to the front. If it blows out you go down while if it blows out on the back you just end up walking.

Granted the OP's tyre doesn't look likely to blow out from those pics.

I was aiming at trying to avoid a blowout by limiting the pressure on the tyre.

Oh I appreciate that but it's just that if it does go, the consequences are worse on the front than the back.

Yeah hopefully not, but i was thinking it should stay on the back too

Will prob try this too, just to make sure I get where I'm going in the morning!

Glue is drying as we speak, hopefully it can hold it out for long enough!

Really appreciate the advice from everyone lads. Think I will just pick up a new tire tomorrow though, bit annoying as there's less than 100 miles on that one.....but these things happen I guess. Anyone got any thoughts on gator skins/durano tires, gonna get something a bit tougher than the stock ones that came with the bike, there a bit flimsy I think!

Had same problem with my ribmo on the rear, tried gluing with no success, fixed a standard patch inside the tyre and it held for a while them blew. Now have a thicker patch and its holding well. Anyone experience of tyre patches? Would be useful in this situation

This. I've the sidewall of an old mtb slick that I've used as a boot on my trek hybrid. It's there two years at this stage.
