Dacia Duster - Electronic Stability Control

    Hello,

There's a separate Dacia Duster thread but I wanted to create a specific one in relation to Electronic Stability Control (ESC). ESC is only available on the 4X4 ... now, I won't be doing any off-roading so don't need the 4 X 4 for that. So my question is - what are people's thoughts on whether not having ESC is a safety issue? The 4 X 4 is €2K more expensive than the Signature model, as well as (I'd imagine) guzzling more diesel so don't want to go up to that model if possible.

Interested to hear people's opinion on whether not having ESC is an issue for ordinary (on-road :) ) usage.

    Thanks,
    super_freddie.

It's the same as any safety feature, its always nice to have it. I've been driving 12 years and only had ESP on my last 2 cars. I didn't end up in any ditches.

Treat the duster like the 2 year old rivals you'd get for the same money which don't have ESP either and it seems less of an issue.

As colm said plenty of people have driven non-ESC cars and never had an accident.

Having said that, it's seen as such an important innovation in car safety that the EU have made it mandatory on all new cars launched.

unless you plan on keeping the duster for 5+ years id try spend the extra 2k , the 4x4 is worth it alone and will make it far more attractive for resale as it wont be a "faux by four"

There is a report online somewhere showing poor response to an 'elk' test on a duster without ESP, they were moving quite quick to get it to happen though.

Like anything else safety wise better to have it than not, but plenty of more premium cars have Bly made it standard in last year if that.

Here it is, video shows 4x4 with ESP first.

Note the report itself says that no issues were found by that blogs test.

Pah, the fastest car through that test is a Xantia Activa. No ESP on them.
