The missus refuses to watch Walking Dead and seems only vaguely interested in Boardwalk Empire but will watch it. I tried explaining the premise of Breaking Bad but no interest. She does like Fringe though. None of this makes any sense?

You might need to get rid mate! I don't think i could be with anybody that doesn't like Breaking Bad or The Walking Dead

My sister watches pretty much all the same stuff as me from Breaking Bad, to 24, to Game of Thrones. My mother was a huge Lost fan and she's in her fifties.

It's not really a male / female divide any more. Just a personality divide. Women are watching the Walking dead and men are watching America's next top hoebag. They just don't admit it :p.

In terms of being the most over hyped show on television? Yep!

We both watch Walking Dead and both thought it was a pile of shìt until it picked up a small bit towards the end of season 2. This season has been a big improvement so we're still sticking with it.

Since we don't watch TV we tend to find shows the 2 of us would watch together like Suits (thrash, but strangely watchable) and Mad Men.

She doesn't watch Breaking Bad but that's moreso down to the fact that I started it without her back at Season 3. We watched all of Malcolm In The Middle and she loves Cranston. Was fun watching a Hal-heavy show and then showing her a clip of Walter being evil, was like 2 different actors.

After that, she has her shows and I got my Boardwalk Empire and Game Of Thrones...................and The Wire to add over Xmas (too many years I've put it off)

My fella and I watch most of the same shows but he likes The Walking Dead whereas I don't see the appeal tbh.

My boyfriend and I have very similar tastes when it comes to tv shows, and will always know what to recommend to each other (he got me started on Community, I got him into Breaking Bad...) and will generally watch the same thing (The Walking Dead, American Horror Story, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones). There are, of course things I watch that I know he wouldn't be into at all though, Grey's Anatomy (I know it's become a girly cliché at this stage but I love it!) and various science documentaries for instance, and there are certain shows he'll watch that I just don't get. But on a whole we're pretty much on par with what shows we'll watch! :)

Can't speak for other blokes, but for me, unless women are watching nothing but football, current affairs and documentaries, the answer is likely no.

Everybody is different. I'm a Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, Downton Abbey, Coronation Street watcher. Oh... and Law and Order SVU ( I have a crush on Olivia Benson / Mariska Hargitay).

My wife is the 60 minute drama fan, whereas i'm the 30 minute comedy guy. our tastes overlap sometimes, and she has great taste in TV. neither of us have interest in sport, soaps or a large portion or reality tv....and hates xfactor and the like. Thanks to her I discovered always sunny, archer and a good few others. she's watched walking dead from episode one, whereas i only joined at the current season.

she does stray on occasion, with merlin, vampire diaires, but then she does have to put up with wheeler dealers and fifth gear too...

there are few arguments about what to watch in my house.

The missus and myself have pretty similar tastes - Walking Dead, Sons of Anarchy, Fringe, Dexter, GOT. We were both devoted Losties and X-Filers way back.

However, she loves her Corrie and I'm a Celebrity  and has no interest in Breaking Bad or The Wire :(.

So long as there is a greater than 50% degree of commonality, then all is rosy.

Guys don't even watch the same shows as guys necessarily, I've no interest in any of the Vampire, Zombie or Game Of Thrones shiite that most males on here seem to like, I'd be more Mad Men, Breaking Bad, BSG and Forbrydelsen which probably have 50/50 male/female viewers. I'd say its crap like Strictly and X Factor where there is a huge female following only.

Cant talk for all women but i watch love/hate, x files and firefly when they were on also got the mother watching fringe with me aswell. i think its its an individual thing rather than gender thing

Myself and my guy pretty much love all the same stuff- action, nature shows, drama, comedy, documentaries, cookery shows, as well as things like Greys and the Big C.
Neither of us like sci-fi, sport or period dramas.
There are things I watch alone that he doesn't (reality sh¡te) and vice versa (he is a big fan of world cinema) but 90% of the time we wstch the same stuff.
My folks watch TV in separate rooms... I would hate that!

I would imagine that (anecdotal evidence to the contrary) that there are serious differences in terms of the gender break-down for certain shows, while for some shows the chances are that the split is probably 50/50.

A big indicator of who is watching what would be the types of advertising you see in the ad breaks for specific shows.

You don't see many ads for beer during soaps or ads for cosmetics during sports shows.
