I've never heard of such a thing. I'd lay money there isn't. What makes you ask?

Failed the test on excessive wear on the disks. Was told that there is a wear indicator on them and it had popped out!!

    I'm guessing pad wear indicator

Pads are like new. Passed the brake test but failed on excessive worn disks..

No wear indicator on the pads anyway

Unless they mean the minimum thickness was reached....

There are wear indicators on some disks. Its hard to describe what's its like, its kind of a thinner section of the outer rim of the disk which can break off when the thickness of the disk goes below the minimum...although normally way below.

The disks should be getting measured at every service though and shouldn't have had new pads fitted if they were that worn.

The bit roughly at my thumb??

New disks are 21mm. Min thickness on the book is 18.5. My disks measured 20...

Wouldn't know the NCT regs but I've had cars of ours pass that have been worse than that.

tbh from you pics OP I can't see why you got a fail?

That's the one. If your disks are still above the minimum then go back to the tester and tell him that. The DOE doesn't physically check disks pads so he is only guessing.

I had the same thing with a DOE on a Navara. Tester said everything was fine but the pads needed to be changed(they were over half worn), I asked him what thickness they where currently and what was the minimum allowed by Nissan for the Navara......he then passed them.

Oh I did go back with my mechanic. Challenged him over it and he said there was nothing wrong with that disk(we only brought the one with us) and that it was the other one was worse even though its the same.
He says that there is a bit that falls out of that moon shaped bit to let you know that they are worn out and he can't pass them now that its out even though there is nothing wrong with the disk.
It also failed on tracking even thought there is no print out stating the values only that a fail is +/- 14 and he wrote in pen after it saying its 16.

He said he will drop the retest fee. I was going to go to another center but its working out cheaper to replace the disks and get it tracked and go back to him than pay for another full test.

I wouldn't accept any fail without printed, documented evidence of the test results.

If they refuse to give them then inform them that your next call will be to the VTN( http://www.vehicletesting.ie/contactus.html ) and/or the RSA.
