Social Welfare dependent

My mam and dad are unemployed. My mam gets the full amount from social welfare (€188 I think it is) and my dad gets €130 or there abouts.

My dads been on the €130 for nearly two years now and I don’t think he’s onthe right amount.

He asked the welfare office if its right and they said “yes its rightbecause he is a dependant”

    He doesn’t and I don’t understand why he’s a dependent.

Am I correct to say that each house hold has a dependent? If a husband andwife are both claiming welfare, would they not both get the 188euro?

I really confused about this, can anyone advise how this works?

The only way both could get 188 is if they were both claiming JSB.As you describe it the dept are correct, the weekly payment in the household would be near enough €312.40
