    Hey guys,

I've been out of the game for about two years and I'm looking to get back into it. I wanted to hear some opinions on the new Chaos codex that came out while I was away. What got better? What got worse? What's a real bargain pointswise?

    Thanks a mil

Depends who you listen to. Peoples opinions are very mixed. My opinions

    + Lords got better
+ New Chaos techmarine guy is good
+ Typhus and plague zombies are great
+ Heldrake is excellent with a baleflamer, can simply delete MEQs units off the board, and pretty resiliant, others would complain that it's too expensive and the opposite of what I think
+ Bikes with mark of nurgle are incredibly cheap for their points relative to their toughness
+ Spawn are looking like an auto-include now. Very fast and they hit hard.
+ Noise Marines are a great mid-range shooting unit now

-Mutilators are pretty awful. People are claiming success with multiple, lone Mutilators though.
-Warp talons are decent but don't have grenades, which is odd for an assault unit with no ranged attacks.
    - No drop pods. I don't mind this, as it means they aren't just Marines with spikes, but some might.

People dislike it because there aren't any obvious "I win." army to take. Its a decent book with a lot of options for army builds.

Basically Chaos marines have a successful melee army in a shooting game but this can only be achieved by very careful selection, minimize point spending on upgrades and selecting the appropiate units to run together. The most common mistake is people going bling bling on their squads and end up with to few boots on the ground thinking they can do the lifting. You also need to be careful how you mix units (non marked should be lead by marked to gain the benefits, filler characters to take challenges if you want to slaughter or vice versa etc.).

To the poster above; Mutilators are great if you take them in groups and send them all in as a distraction. Either your opponent spend a few rounds shooting heavy stuff at them to kill them (instead of the rest of your army that comes in right behind the Mutilators) or the Mutilators goes to town in melee in your opponents army and you can laugh and throw dice by the bucket killing his army via multicharges (to ensure you stay locked in combat).

Here's a few example armies all taken from YTTH which goes into more detail on Chaos then I ever could (at a very different tone then boards as a caution):
