The growth in Smartphone Payments

Ok, so let me level with you, this is a shameless plug for a survey for my dissertation, but trust me, it’s pretty interesting.

In a few years’ time, cash and debit/credit cards will become a thing of the past and paying for everything with your mobile phone will become the norm. With attitudes to banks in Ireland at an all-time low, non-traditional third party players are entering the mobile payment space and consumers will soon have the choice of paying for goods on their phone via the likes of Apple or Google instead of their banks.

Do you think you could live without your bank for your day-to-day financial needs and would you trust Apple to process payments on your phone?

The survey should only take 5 or 6 minutes to fill out and I’d really appreciate your input; https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2RFL6LN

    Thanks folks!

    Done.

But I do have something to say on Q25:
How safe and secure do you see smartphones as a way of making payments?

It's not smartphones that add the security, it's the platform that you happen to be using on the smartphone that provide the security. The smartphone itself will only have the usual like pin's/unlock codes etc to use the device.

    Thanks for the input folks!

It looks like a lot of people are a bit wary about idea of the smartphone being at the centre of your life at the moment. But either way, the whole payments space is in for a similar digital age shake-up as the music and book industry. It'll be interesting to see how it pans out over the next couple of years!
