Thinking of heading to Sao Paulo for a break from Ireland, fancy a change. Anyone here ever worked or lived in Sao Paulo before? Will be heading with a few mates and we have a friend (Brazilian) living there already. Looking at teaching english initially and see where we can go from there...Any feedback welcome!!

Do you have a degree? Teaching qualification? Interested in this myself.

Yeah have a business degree...no teaching teaching qualification but I started the tefl a few years ago so will finish that before heading out. From speaking with brazilian friend we will get jobs teaching english no problems. However,to get job in business will be tougher, will have to work on the language but its very possible. Been working in Ireland for years and would be nice to work abroad also to be there for the world cup!! Got mates in Shenzhen, China and they ae flying, no degrees even.

Need to have your wits about you there. Lived there for a year in a gated community. 1000 people a week are murdered in Brazil and violent crime is endemic in parts of the city. Do your research before you go. Amazingly beautiful country though.

I totally understand what you are saying have heard it from a lot of people. Keeps wits about you at all times and stay away from certain areas. Thanks for the input. Did you work over there?

Living in Brazil for the last year, with your experiance you should try get in with a business english company. To teach english you dont need any tefl or celta qualification just be a native speaker. Teaching pays reasonably well in Sao Paulo however the cost of living is also high, so you wont get rich but you can live quite comfortably in a safe part of the city. I thought business english for 6 months until I got a (real) job.
