Saorview carries the channels listed here

If you live in an area that can receive the UK channels with an aerial pointing at an NI or Wales transmitter the Saorview box will receive these channels also.

If you live outside the coverage area of a UK transmitter a Freesat or FTA satellite receiver and dish will be required to receive the UK channels.

Just to make it absolutely clear, if you live outside the coverage area of a UK transmitter then you should consider a COMBI BOX, which if connected to an aerial and satellite dish will receive ALL the Saorview channels AND ALL the free UK chanels (BBCs, ITVs, Ch4, etc etc) plus their HD versions and a load of other free channels.

I personally prefer the user friendliness of a Freesat PVR for 7 day epg, twin tuners, auto update, built-in recording etc.

I suppose it depends on priorities. I have a TV with Freesat and I don't bother recording anymore, so for me one remote and no box is a big plus. If I was the OP I would steer clear of two boxes, but if they want to record UK channels your suggestion is good.

Me too, I use it in FTA mode. The Freesat PVR is mainly used for recording.
