Most household policies will give some cover, but it tends to be limited (certainly in amount bearing in mind a lot of people around here have quite high value bikes)

CI do have a deal with Cyclesure which may be worth checking out

are you not insured on those organised spins anyway by dint of paying the fee?

Presume that would be for injuries sustained or caused as opposed to theft of bike.

Simply not true. You must have one crap a$$ policy.

I'm gonna try racing next year, given the probability of crashing in A4, or so I've heard, do people think Cyclesure is worth it for say ~200 quid?

I'm thinking it would just for sheer peace of mind, it would be an expensive Sunday morning if one was to wreck a frame...

Or just make it a little less generic. If the bike comes with black bar tape from the factory, use a different colour. No way someone would mistake it for theirs then...

As Lusk says, this isn't true. I renewed my policy a couple of months back and insured my fancy pants racer for the full whack (I'd rather not disclose the amount as it's ridiculous for someone this slo to have such an expensive bike!). It's covered for theft and damage, whether in the house or on the road...the only stipulation is it's not covered for racing. The CI insurance is a joke. I think a few years of insurance and you'd have paid more than the bike is worth.
Re crashing in a race, how often does the bike get mangled? It seems the pros come down and more often than not the bike is ok.
    Slo

Who'd have thought it...handle bar tape for bike security!

Your fellow riders say no. We want you to be terrified of crashing.

Simplest solution. Bar tape, bidons, saddle.

Get some electrical tape and customise your bar finishing tape or get a frame sticker.

It was an honest mistake, I don't think you need to be too worried about theft on the Sean Kelly (during the spin).

My house insurance covers my bike outside the property to the value of 1,500euro for theft (if my bike was worth that much). No added cost, did warn me that there was depreciation on the value of the bike which seemed fair.

A work collegue got the same but had to pay €150 extra. Hes covered for all manner of scenarios including accidental damage and theft. His bike is a Pinarello Dogma thats valued about €6k .. If it were mine id have to be surgically removed from it ...

Ive never heard of a bike being stolen from a feedstop but Id say its only a matter of time. A thief with gear on would not arouse any suspicion

OP do a bit of customising as advised above.. Pink handlebar tape is the best deterrant I have ever seen ! ;)

I'd imagine that for your policy to be valid regarding theft your bike would have to locked. I'd don't know of any roadies that carry locks on their spins!

Does the same apply to your car if you are out with it and it gets stolen?

I carry a kryptonite mini on long spins, not perfect but it does the job, fits in a jersey pocket if you don't mind stretching it a bit.

Maybe if unlocked, don't know as I'm no expert. Cars however have the distinct advantage over bikes in that they have built in locks!

it was a mistake about my bike and i do have a rare enough bike and its a matt black but thinking like ring of kerry lots of people and bikes every where we have no bike loss yet is there any tracking chip you could get that would cost less then 200 .i think its only a matter of time untill it happens to some one and with the cost of bikes now it would be a dad day to come home without your bike. i think tours should cover them when you hand over 30 to 50 euro

One of these might deter an opportunist while quaffing an espresso, but obviously not a thief with tools. Also, home insurance ( external items ) should work out cheaper than a dedicated policy. Just be clear on what it doesn't cover, e.g. crashes.
