OK, so I have a problem. I want to defer for a year, but unsure whether I'd be allowed to or not. You see, I suffer from depression rather badly, and I find college is only making it worse, so I want to defer. Ideally, I'd like to repeat first year, but I'm afraid that I'd have to pay the full fees even though I have medical reasons. Paying the full fees is simply not an option, so I don't know what to do.

I was in the same situation as you and I decided to defer - it all worked out okay :) Go over to the Academic Advisory office (they're based in Education House) and explain your situation; they will let you know your options and what you will need to do. They're unbelievably helpful. Hope you feel better soon.

What Seren said! Academic Advisory Office in Education House. It's the first building on your right as you're walking in the entrance closest to Manor Mills / Dunnes.
