    Hi guys,

Just seen an advert for a 2007, automatic Nissan Primera. Price 4.5K which seems very reasonable. Does anyone have any experience of these cars or know of any problems that they may have. Have heard of problems with gearbox, but have been told by person selling car that if the car is serviced every year problems should not manifest.

Any feedback or opinions would be appreciated.

They are grand from what I see. Pretty reliable and cheap as chips. I know lots of people with them without any issue, although I sometimes read on here that they give problems with gearboxes.

Not too sure about an automatic though.

4500 is a bit much too. 4k or less would be more like it.

As an a to b car it will do the job but a 1.8 litre auto Primera is about as desireable as a dose of the clap, hence the price. Make sure to check the car out thoroughly though as it is possible that it was an ex-rental. It was mostly the rental companies that bought the auto versions.

They also eat window regulators and second hand ones are scarce because of this but this may have been sorted by 2007 when the model was near the end of its production life.

Had the 1.6 SVE version in 05 from new and only sold it last year.
In the 6 years I owned it basic maintenance costs and I had one wheel bearing to change which cost about €180 (nissan hubs are integrated).
Can't fault the car at all, heavy on the juice alright though since it's a fairly heavy car but extremely reliable.

The gearbox problems are on the manual cars. One the auto box has the proper oil changes etc then it should be fine.

Window regulators failing, sticking calipers and stretched timing chains are the other common issues.

Sounds very Renaulty,,,, I wonder why ? Apart from the timing chains, ahem?

    Funny that alright;)

Interestingly, the Japanese built Primera's don't give the same issues.

A bit late now - you probably have made your decision but -
    I'm on my third primera
    Current one is a 2004 1.8 Auto.
Have it 5 years - 125,000 on the Clock
Looking at changing to a 2007 version, Garage wants 3500 with mine. ?????
(Thats 2k for mine or maybe 1.5).

    Problems
It would seem that all cars makes have issues (VW, BMW Totyota etc)
Windows on Primera - Usually the plastic holders pull away from the glass (stuck with frost or grime). Easy enought to fix
Gearbox ???? No problem with the 3, I have had (1.8 Jap import, 2000 M6 CVT and 2004 1.8 Auto Vis).
My local garage have listed a Skoda Octavia at €8995 & a Primera 1.8 Auto at €5500
So obviously Primeras are good value if your going to keep it for a few years and scrap it - If you can get one at 4K to 4.5k then its good value
    Best of Luck

Youre saying a garage is selling a 2007 Primera for 5-5.5k?
    Can I ask Where?
Whats yours, saloon? hatch? I likely wouldnt be going for an 07, bit concerned about the reports that they are flaky like the renaults, have had good experience with other cars and from other owners of Nissans, Micras, Almeras,
Personally any future upgrade, wont be newer than 5 years and probably older, maybe 7. Id try and get my hands on an estate, that or a people carrier, either of any reliable make, I think people are usually trashed, mechanically as they are mostly used as the family bus.
Jap built primeras here? thought they came from the UK

    Hi,

Sorry for the delay in coming back to you.
    Garage is in Kildare.
Mine is a 2004 Saloon (so is the 2007)
These cars will do 200000+ miles if you look after them.
The Gearbox on the Automatic do not seem to give problems.
Electric window problem is down to plastic holders to grip glass. Problems can be avoided if you keep glass and seals clean & some lub every now and again.
Other car makes have their own issue so I would not get hung up too much on it (there is no perfect used car:eek:).
My wife bought a Citroen Picasso in 2003 (its a 2002 and would not have been on my redar). Its still going strong, great car once you get use to the soft ride so I would have no problem in giving it top marks.
There are load of great cars out there between €2000 to €4000.
Private deal would be best value - A garage offering me €1250 for mine is selling a similar car for €4400 (a nice little mark-up even allowing for a 3-6 month warranty)
    Happy hunting and safe driving
