I've got free Sky

Due to an oversight, I have full Sky + HD with all movie and sport channels, and Sky charge me nothing for it.

The problem is that I am moving house.

Can anyone tell me, if I take my Sky box and card to another location, will it work?

Also, in my new place, there is only an NTL connection. So if I were to order the basic Sky package and get connected, could I then switch boxes and get my deluxe service for the price of the basic?

Have I any other options, or is my golden age of free Sky finished?

I'm not sure this thread is legal,,so it may be locked/removed...

    However..

You could buy a dish yourself,,and get someone to install it...It will work away fine then.

The dishes are cheap enough,,and expect to pay between €70-€90 for installation.

If you sign up to sky,,your contracted for 12 months,,which kind of defeats the purpose of having it free in the first place.

Cards are tied to the boxes, so moving the box is grand as long as you still have the same card in it.

Buy your own dish, they are cheap, and keep your free $ky.

I had it free for nearly a year but I think they have caught on.
I got a letter last week saying this month they will charge me for all purchases from the last 3 months. I assume that means TV as well :(

Bring the box with you,if there's no dish then either install one yourself or get a local installer to put one up.It doesn't matter where the box is,it'll work away so long as you have it hooked up to a dish.
Best to not contact Sky as they will cop their oversight straight away & it's bye bye free Sky.

I don't know why the OP has free Sky, so I can't really lock it yet, I can't believe that Sky would simply make an "oversight" so we'll se how it goes and if there's any hint of anything dodgey here we'll have to lock.

If you've no contract with them, then they can't inertia sell you 3 months like you've said they have threatened

They do occasionally screw up, ive had 2 customers over the years that canceled their subscription but the card continued to work, one of them for over 2 years.
The other was a multiroom sub, when she cancelled, the multiroom box switched off, but on the sky + all that happened was that the recording shut down, the box continued to work as normal for about a year.

For me, there was a delay in getting the dish up so the TV portion of the package wasn't charged for the first month. They seem to have forgotten to add it back in and I didn't notice myself for a while.

Ok so I guess I'll look into buying a dish, where could I get one and how could I find someone who would install it for me?

Does it need a phone line, or is that a stupid question?

    Thanks to all.

you dont need a phone line for just one box, you only need a phone line for multiroom.

satellite.ie are very good and i think they give a boards discount. they have dishes starting from just 25 euro. they also do installation.

    http://www.satellite.ie/acatalog/Dishes.html

woodies, b&q, lidl, aldi sometimes sell satellite dishes and there are still a few local tv shops around some areas. if you google you will find lots of other online retailers or check the small ads in a local paper for installers in your area

I would warn off a beginner attempting to put up a dish themselves. You may spend 2 or 3 hours and get nothing. To install a dish idealy you would have a professional satellite finder. The cheap ones are very confusing. The Sky box itself is very slow to react and the signal bars on the box are not that helpful.

I would recommend paying a local installer 80 or 90 Euro all in for new dish etc. If you want to learn how to put up dishes then have a go but don't expect it to work first time.
