Was Platini bribed by the airline industry?

Well its the only reason I can think of for hosting Euro 2020 all over the place. Bad enough that they're letting 24 teams qualify, half of Europe, but ruining the magic of the tournament further by spreading it out everywhere is insane

Another somewhat more plausable reason is that hosting the competition is becoming financially impossible for most countries and politicians cannot justify that level of spending when most countries are in recession and financial woes.

This is a test to see if something less expensive works.

Well allowing half of Europe to qualify wouldn't help with the costs

Yes but how will fans be able to afford it now they'll be expected to fly all over Europe to watch their team play?

Maybe they should hold it in a country with no history of football, gets hotter than the surface of the sun in summer and doesn't allow alcohol.

FIFA are rotten to the core, the ruling hierarchy also seem to hate England

How would the airlines profit from the competition being held all over the place? How many people fit in a stadium? Say 60k? The way UEFA/FIFA operate in the past, there are probably 50% of tickets allocated to residents of the country/city where the match is being played. Leaving at best 30k tickets for partisan supporter. Now, of those 30k, how many are going to drive, take the train, ferry, coaches to the venue? Would maybe 3 or 4 thousand be flying?
I mean how much profit does an airline make on a full flight? How many more flights would they be able to put on? Generally you only bribe someone if you stand to profit handsomely from that bribe like energy companies bribing politicians to remove health and safety regulations on the industry.
Surely if an airline bribed Platini, say a million, how would spreading the competition all over the place ensure that they made a (extra) profit of say 2 million over and above what they would make in a normal year during the period or if the competition was held in 1 or 2 countries?

    I can't see it.

I think the logic will be that locals will make up the bulk of the attendance at individual games, with fans from the countries competing making up a smaller section.

It will mean an individual country will not need to build multiple stadia that may not be used again, which is good for them I suppose. Odd decision all the same. Can't see the airlines having any influence on this though, surely if everyone was flying into the same destination they could gouge more than having multiple locations?

Well considering how Irish fans travel, I'd be questioning if there was a bribe by tent makers and used camper van salesmen? :D
