I looked at a 917 in hmr, got a chance to shoot one, then bought my CZ455 thumbhole in hmr and I haven't looked back since. Couldn't be happier with it and have taken more bunnies and magpies than I could count. Taken charlie out and few times too. Great rifle:-D

Had one, there a great little gun. They are the lower end of the price range and it shows around the bolt and magazine. I changed to a cz 425 american just because it is a lighter gun. Haven't looked back and wouldn't change from the cz.

Pintos have you thought about barrel length? .17hmr's are popular in 16 and 20 inch barrels. Just wondering if you or anyone else have experience/ knowledge of either

the one i saw had the longest barrel of any other .17 that was on the shelf.
i reckon a longer barrel makes your shot more accurate as the the bullet is in the rifling of the barrel for longer......just my thought on it

You'd be wrong there. Too many variables , twist/load etc plenty of 16s out shooting 20s.. 20s shooting 24 etc.

on topic.. they're a grand gun but they are cheap and it shows.. mag is crap.. bolt is woeful.. but they are very accurate..

Cant go wrong with a CZ thou

anyway, whats wrong with the bolt and clip?

do cz do a heavy stainless barrel like a 917vs?

    The CZ style.

Discontinued but shouldn't be too hard tracking one down..

    Fantastic looking ..

ye i know them, thats nickel plated not stainless..

the barrel on the this 917vs i saw is heavy and fluted.... it looks unreal..

plus my schmidt and bender will be savage on it.lol

i know a rifle smith that will fine tune the roughness of the bolt for me. i think i will go for the marlin as the safety if similar to my remington and i just hate cz safety levers...

Caunt fault my marlin at all. the bolt is fine on mine, some people only tried them in the shop when they were new when they tend to be a bit stiffer.

There was an issue with the shot clip where the rail it slid up on was a bit looser than the one on the rifle. a slight pinch in the vice and its never been an issue since. ( the one you are looking at is the VSF, F been the fluted barrel and is a newer model which might not have the same problem. )
    Mine loves remy 17gr v-max and has a 18"barrel.

Its a bit on the heavy side with the heavy barrel but then again so is the thumbhole CZ

ye its the same as your one but the barrel is fluted.

i think they are a class little rifle and i have a schmidt and bender sitting in the press for it so should be a tidy accurate unit when its together.

garda pending of course......it will be my 4th gun, will this be a problem?
