Best DS Games?

Myself and my girlfriend have assigned a budget of €50 to spend on each other this Christmas. I've already found a vintage 1950s camera to get but I'm looking to pick up one or two old school DS games. She has a 3DS so getting a game for that would break the presents limit. What games work on the 3DS? How far back could I look? As far as the original Game Boy or just back as far as the DS?

Also, depending on what would work on her 3DS, what would everyone recommend? She likes Mario, Zelda (she has Ocarina Of Time and Super Mario Bros 2 already).

I've found Kid Icarus Rising on the 3DS for pretty cheap. I've heard it's hard though. I've also seen Zelda: Phantom hourglass, Professor Layton and Guitar Hero on the DS. Recommended? Super Mario 64 would be sweet but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

DON'T get her Guitar Hero. In order for the attachment to work she needs either a DS Lite or the original DS. It's not a great game anyway.

Professor Layton games are quite easy to find on Adverts and I would definitely recommend them. I love them. You can't go wrong with the first one (The Curious Village) which is up on adverts for €10.

The two Zelda games are also great and easily gotten on Adverts.

What games does she already have on the 3ds?

You're going back to the original DS only. GB/GBA cartridges were bigger.

As well as 2 years of 3DS games, you have 7 years of DS games to choose from too. Metacritic's full release list (sorted by rating) is definitely a good starting point. Good luck!

She only has Zelda OOT and Mario Bros 2. I've just watched a few Kid Icarus YouTube vids. It looks quite impressive. Maybe that and a Professor Layton?

Advance Wars is the one game that keeps my DS alive......after that the Zelda games were pretty good (saw spirit tracks for cheap the other day will pick it up eventually) Mario games were pretty good too........back to Advance Wars lol

The Mario and Luigi games are great if you can find them. Dragon Quest IX is very good as well. I'd also recommend any of the Layton games, Ghost Trick, either of the Zelda games, Elite Beat Agents, Golden Sun or any of the Pokemon games.

    Professor Layton games are great.
If you want a nice game for her Custom Robo Arena is excellent.
Solartarobo Red the Hunter is also great also Ghost Trick is amazing

If Mrs. Shuffles has any memories of mid-to-late 90s arcadery, Point Blank DS'd be worth a punt. It's a good conversion of the arcade principles onto the touchscreen, and comes out a deadly, addictive minigame-shooter.

I saw new copies of Super Mario 64 in Smyth's (Galway) for €34.99, and Mario Kart and New Super Mario Bros for €29.99 each, best new prices I've seen anyway.
