I just rang up my insurer to put someone on my policy. They quoted me an amount, I agreed and they said they would send out a new disc etc.

However they rang back and are now jacking up the price! For all they know I could of allowed the other person to drive the car already. Can they do this?

Did you not ask them how much it was going to cost before you agreed to proceed?

Yes I asked them and they told me, but now they are looking for twice the amount. No I haven't agreed to it

Yes I agreed the amount and told them to proceed. They rang me back later and said they wanted more money. What you think I should do?

If it was me Id probably tell them to piss off, honor the original agreed price or Im cancelling my policy and moving to another insurer.

Did they give any indication as to why they have decided to ask for more money?

I'd be inclined to agree with you. They just said they cannot do it for the agreed price. They said they can only do it for that price for half the period. I've never heard the likes of it.

Who were you talking to? Just a regular agent or a manager?

Deffo wouldn't agree to it but I'd push for them to honour the agreed initial price.

Was the original amount quoted for the remainder of the policy or full a year. How old is your own policy

The amount was quoted until February which is when my policy ends. And now they want double the amount until February

What reason did they give for this? Was it a mistake on their part or on yours?

I presume it was their mistake. They quoted me for the period until the end of Feb. I have rang them and reminded them that their calls are recorded and to listen back to the call. I am not going to budge on it

Sounds reasonable to me - be polite, but firm. :)
