How do you feel about Bootlegs?

Back in the day i was a HUGE Prince fan, i had over 500 factory pressed boots! (gave them all away in recent years to other fans/prnce friends). Nearly every month a new boot would drop with some awesome outtakes or a soundboard or a live concert etc.

The internet has mostly killed the Prince boot scene due to the "free boot generation"....basically cheap bastards who wanted boots for free
Anywho....leaving aside intellectual property and copyrights i had zero problem with the ethics of it all.

If "theives in the temple" brought fourth the funk Prince wouldn't i was  about it. So you a boot lover?

    Let me get this straight...

Its ok for you to buy illegally recorded audio but its not ok for us to get them for free?

Correct me, but whos the one that was feeding the piracy industry by paying for the stuff? You.

Exactly....you pay them so as they can get more recordings, they pay others for the outtakes etc. and press boots and sell them. Yeah they take heafty profits but you wouldnt hear the funk without the evil bootleggers.

Course this situation has changed in recent years and its the fans themselves putting out new stuff.

I remember buying them on tape from guys on O'Connell bridge. And it was always a gamble whether the sound was anyway good. Not Prince though, proper music.

I've a attic full of Zappa bootlegs, some of them go for a tidy price on eBay but I wouldn't part with them.

I got a few bootlegs from
The Pogues and Shane MacGowan the sound was terrible on them!

I'd say most folks, who are old enough to remember him, bought their bootlegs from him. :D

What the Hell does this even mean? Those words, they exist definitely, but never in that order.

In an interview Prince called bootleggers "theives in the temple"....he fired engineers and people who leaked stuff out of Paisley Park,

Maybe this thread should be moved to one of the music forums since your references require a certain knowledge of Prince's work or pirated illegal copies of said work.
