It can vary. Nearly always within the month. Usually 7-10 days.
Now that you have the receipts back, I'd imagine 7-10 days or less.

No catch take the paper work into your accountant and he will reclaim the vat for you.

What you need are original invoices marked paid.

I'm in a similar position to some others here - I've just finished a shed and want to reclaim my VAT (I haven't been through this before).
One question- I have lots of invoices for concrete, stone etc - I've paid them, but I don't have anything marked 'PAID' .
Will these receipts (invoices actually) suffice, or do I need to go back to my suppliers and get them to send me on a 'PAID' receipt?

    Thanks.

You need to get the original invoices marked paid.

Nice to see they are returning the receipts now.

Make sure you are within the time limit they set. They are strict on that point.

Hi mf240, that rule on them having to be marked paid has now changed, once you have the original invoice you are good to go now.

Just a quick one on this. Got some invoices from suppliers where a discount was given and nothing written on the invoice .

E.g. Have an invoice for stone for 4k but got 550 off the invoice he just marked it paid. What do I do one the original invoice? Recalculate it to show what I actually paid in vat?

Just the posts and wire. The item has to be fixed to the ground - we weren't allowed on a head scoop even though it is welded to the crush because they are usually a moveable item.

    can you clarify also

if vat refund is received on a item , the balance cannot be claimed against income tax, ... it has to written off over a period of time .. ie capital allowances

heard the revenue are checking big time on this just now and going back over a couple year's a/cs

If building a shed can you reclaim VAT as you go or do you have to wait until it is completed and claim all in one go.

I have noticed that the revenue don't like paying out vat if there is any tax owed.
Even though that tax is not due til October.

We reclaimed on a mill and something else but we had to take photos of both before we got the money back. Think that the way is going to be from now on!!

I do my vat reclaim annually (i.e. 1/1/13 up to 31/12/13) so that I can give my accountant a copy of the invoices that I claimed the vat on so that there can be no mix up with what put through as expenses and what used for Capital Allowances.

When getting everything ready for accountant it's as easy to do everything together, I also do my healthcare claim for the year & prepare my med1 so that the accountant can submit everything together for the year.
