I would not buy any PVR until RTENL starts sending series link information on all channels. They have said they will do this once the first Saorview approved PVR is launched. The latest date for that (which has been delayed since August) is next week.

Once series link information is being sent for the ROI channels then all PVRs can be tested for compatability with Saorview and Freeview. In particular problems may arise in terms of the summer winter time change (UK and Ireland is different) and also seamless recording of programmes on one system while watching others etc.

The whole benefit of a PVR is series linking, set and forget etc. If it is not 100% reliable at recordings it would be a disaster. Some boxes may be a total disaster in this regards, due to two countries incompatable systems being received at the same time.

I am moving to dublin and was looking at this unit as a means of possibly receiving freeview in dublin. I see your location is Ennis, do you currently receive freeview?

I only recently had a tvonics DTR-HD500, and tried it on Saorview. I couldn't get it to record 2 channels at the same time (even though it had a twin tuner) and subtitles were not available. I returned it for a refund

No you can't get Freeview down here but I have relations who can get the overspill from NI.
