Hi, I'm doing a Film essay at the moment, which concerns itself with genre, specifically horror. To do so effectively, I would like to find a good and encapsulating definiton of the horror genre, which outlines and describes its common characteristics and traits, as well as its stylistic tendencies and forms.

Can I source this generally, without having to read it from a scholary article, it is after all a common concept?

Is there anywhere that describes the common characteristics and styles of the horror genre in an elaborate way?
I am aware of such concepts such as the monster and idea of other already.

ETA: Apologies for the general title of thread.
