I was hoping someone could tell me what would be the best cameras for photographing concerts? My budget max is 150 Euro. I just want a compact one that will be allowed into the concert.

I was looking at the Samsung WB700? I have read good and bad reviews.

I can't imagine that any cheap compact will do an acceptable job at a concert, I'm assuming wildly variable or low light conditions. Your best bet would be some sort of compact with a fixed fast 35mm equivalent focal length. Looking around though there don't seem to be anything of the sort for sale from any of the manufacturers. It's weird, it was a staple of good cheap film compacts back in the day.

simple answer, don't bring a camera into a concert unless you've been cleared/requested to do so, and you won't annoy the hundreds of punters who have paid to see a gig, but are treated to your LCD screen being held up in the way instead.

I'd also say don't bother. A €150 won't cut it and as mentioned already, you will just take away from other peoples enjoyment. Just download photos someone took on the night.

    here is what you do:

Buy a film camera. if you want B/w shots you can get 3200iso film and shoot with that

the ultimate in this kind of compact film camera is the yashica T4 and T5 But they go for over €200 so don't bother and were used by professionals as backup cameras such was the quality of the lens.

you will need to research compact cameras with good lens quality but other than that it is pretty painless. then pay for printing, which is a drawback. But if you wanted good quality sneaky shots at a concert it is the only way to go.

I wouldn't recommend someone get a point and shoot film camera to shoot gigs. As for the T4/5. Great camera but do they really go for that much? Think it might be time to sell mine.

T4/ t5 prices? any time I have looked for one. yes

on a side note I have been impressed how cameras have held their value over the recession.

@ magicbastarder: all you ever seee at concerts these days is people recording it on their mobile phones so i wouldn't worry.

on the digital front I suppose a g series canon might look like a a compact before the lens comes out it shoots raw and has manual controls.

nah, it was a typo, he meant €20. I'll give you €25 for yours if you want, I'm feeling generous :-D

I've got a T3. Nice lens, awful brute of a yoke though. I've got a bunch of other compacts that are, well, more compact, and get more of an outing as a result.

I like my T5 too much to sell. Just got a Fuji GA645 recently so need to free up some camera assets to pay for it. Figure it'll be easier to get around so selling my Bronica brute.

Depends really. If you can do a daytime festival concert then it takes the pressure off you from an ISO perspective as you should be able to get decent photos particularly if you are up near the front. If it is at night then forget it at that budget. Another factor is range. Hard to get decent range at that budget but you could get a compact that has a good zoom.

yes, but it really does take away from a gig if you're standing behind someone who is recording a gig on a phone. no need to join in.
