I got very excited when I spotted this reissue, great album and the new boxset packaging looks amazing. Unfortunately I went on to Amazon.co.uk and saw it was £140 :-( HMV have it for £160. It's $75 for the vinyl boxset on the official website!!
How can they justify this price? Anyone ever ordered from the official site? I assume they ship here and then I'd get hit with customs?

On budget day, allow me to dispense some sound financial advice - don't buy it, thereby in the process saving you the costs you've mentioned and the emotional turmoil it's costing you debating where to buy it.

Go listen to the original on Spotify. Really don't see the need for all these remasters/reissues, especially for albums that sound fantastic anyway.

I'm pretty sure the extras that will probably be included with it were already released on The Aeroplane Flies High and Judas 0.

I rarely bother with reissues like this unless my original album is knackered, it just seems like a way of fleecing music fans before CDs finally become obsolete.

Hmm... all perfectly logical reasons for not buying it. But yet...

I'll ask Santa for the bog standard 2 disc option.

Everything from the Mellon Collie era on Judas O was on the Aeroplane flies high anyway.

There's also some books, a live dvd and a decoupage kit? WTF?
Still seems excessively expensive for 64 cuts that werent good enough in the first place?

The vinyl set is selling for something like 250 euro in Tower. Absolutely obscene money.

I've come across these recordings via other means (ahem), and am a long standing pumpkins fan to boot too (especially of MCIS era). Here's the rub...it's not worth it.

The necessity of a remaster was always going to be questionable to my ears and the extra's aren't all that great- a few instrumental takes, a few home recorded demo's...nothing wildly exciting unearthed. There's a few 2012 remixes by long standing producer Bjorn Thorsrud and one of them is positively awful and inferior to the original ('Marquis in Spades'-how downright unnecessary was that?!). If you're not already familiar with it, 'The Aeroplane Flies High' is a far better and superior insight into MCIS-era Pumpkins.

The price really is ridiculous. I've seen the vinyl on Amazon for approx. 70-80 pounds which is bit more realistic and I can understand its desirability due to the rarity of the original pressing. Otherwise, as poster above said, hit Spotify or get your hands on the original. Your pocket and sensibilities will thank you for it. Also, this is coming from someone who normally covets these deluxe reissue type things...

Vinyl box is €130 from Amazon France. No customs duty.
    Click

But does it preserve the original vinyl running order (and have the two extra tracks)?

One annoying thing about Melon Collie' was the time lag between the original release date and the time the vinyl emerged - think it was six months (October '95 vs April '96)

There's a big price jump between this and the previous vinyl and CD reissues [Gish / Siamese Dream / Pisces Iscariot]. Even when you allow for the extra material.

Pop Market will probably have this on sale in a couple of months. I'd wait until then.

I could be wrong but I think I saw the vinyl for €40 in Urban Outfitters in Temple Bar about a month ago :/ No idea if it's still there now though!

Edit: just finished a 12 hour shift, my brain is a bit mushy. It was actually the Siamese Dream vinyl that was €40 in Urban Outfitters.

You can be pretty much guaranteed that anything you buy in Urban Outfitters can be acquired much cheaper elsewhere.

Seeing as it was released on the 4th December I'd doubt you did see it a month ago.

I picked up the 4 Lp version in Boston last week for $76 Lovely set and really impressed with the Transfer. Can't understand why anyone would pay that much for the CD versions though. Spotify is the way to go for that set.

What's Zero sound like? Heard of distortion problems.

The 5-CD+DVD set is fine at half the price. It'll drop eventually.

To be honest I'm not hearing any more distortion than I expect but I am listening to these Vinyl on a crappy ion Turntable. Need to get an upgrade from Santa and will report back.

My 2cd version arrived and I'm very happy with the liner notes. Story/Comments
    on each individual track.

If the Gish and Siamese Dream extra tracks are any indication, its not really worth it. I mean, instrumental versions of songs?? What's the point in that?

Admittedly I did have most if not all of the material already, and same goes for most of MCIS b sides etc. You're better off seeking those out, stuff like Pennies, Aeroplane Flies High, Last Song, Said Sadly, etc, were all released on iTunes as part of the "Smashing Pumpkins Collection" a couple of years ago.

I never saw the Pisces Iscariot box in the shops... anyone get it?

Anyone else a fan of Oceania? I think its a terrific album. Can't wait to see it live.

It's not bad, better than Zeitgeist and Teargarden anyway but still quite a bit off the likes of Siamese Dream. I admit I'm still butthurt that Jimmy's no longer in the band but I really hope The Billy Corgan Show returns to our shores sometime next year (not in the terrible RDS again though).

+1!! The RDS was awful, awful, awful. I actually walked out before the end. Hmm, I wonder where the BC Show :-) would play? The O2?

Very few albums are as good as SD. But Oceania is definitely preferable to Zeitgeist, most of Teargarden, and also Machina. If you take some of the Teargarden songs though, they would fit in on this album. I love Song For A Son and Astral Planes; Owata would've been a great final song on Oceania instead of that awful Wildflower (the only song I don't like on the album).

Back to MCIS, I find I don't listen to it that often anymore. SD, Adore, the new one, sure... but I find MCIS harder to go back to. The vocals on that album are terrible, that could be it. At least, they're terribly recorded. Really thin.

Nah the O2 would probably be too big for them, maybe something like two nights in the Olympia or something along those lines. Yeah Ireland really needs a mid-size venue. The RDS gig was okay, the sound was dreadful though. I missed the support act and the Pumpkins had just started when I made my way into the venue. Billy was completely in love with himself that night and it was all about him.

MC&TIS isn't even one of my favourite Pumpkins albums so I have no intention of buying a reissue. I usually skip about half the songs on it and I'm not a fan of Flood's production on it. Some songs sound too bassy and muddy. Compare that with the production on Siamese Dream and Adore and it pales in comparison.

I agree with that too; although I've heard some of the bonus tracks and they are full band rather than Billy solo so that makes it more interesting. Price is silly though. They could've dropped all the alternative mixes and just had a good CD of unheard tracks... I mean, who wants the string track from Tonight Tonight??

On sale in town for the knockdown recession beating price of 250 squids (CD, DVD version)-should I post this in the bargain alerts forum? Whoever buys this, I want to go live with them- not for our similar taste in music, but for their flippancy and abundance of cash money.
