Are you using the right mix? Although if you weren't the engine would seize. What size of wood are you cutting and for how long do you use it each time you turn it on ? Also how old is it?

Have you added the right mixture of two-stroke oil to the petrol?
    Is the carburetor tuned right?

Does it cut out when using or is it hard to start again, when you stop it?

Check you have the correct spark plug for it, if a petrol engine is overheating it could be too lean a mix also check the carburettor settings

is the mix fresh or has it been in a drum for a year? was told you should change mix every six weeks as the two stroke degrades due to detergents in petrol

Can you describe the symptoms of overheating?
A chainsaw is an aircooled engine and as such would be very hard to overheat as you phrase it.
The cooling system is a fan run off the pullstart side of the engine and it draws air over the cylinder, theres not much to go wrong with it.
If it has run on low/no oilmix then you get whats known as a hot seize.
Which is when you scuff the piston usually exhaust port side and the back two corners.
Further use will cause progressively more damage but if it is scuffed then then it will lack compression and be hard to start.

What is missing, just the spark arrestor gauze or part of the muffler?
They also need a certain amount of back pressure to run right.
    More info needed.

Using 1/40. Oil, petrol mix. Seem,s like it gets to hot and starts to bog down , so I stop it, It starts again with a couple of pulls. Gonna take carb out and check it for block ages or seals that are done

The cooling system isn't clogged with dust and dirt by any chance?
Stripping off all the covers and a good going over with a soft brush and an airline often works wonders.

Check the carb diaphragm. Sounds like it might have a rip/tear.

    Doesn't sound like overheating.
When you say bogs down does the saw cut-out/stall or does it just lack power?
Check the clutch, it could be worn out and starting to slip, that often makes them hot.
How old is the plug? it might need replacing.

Maybe buy a small bottle of aspen run it with it just to make sure your mix is 100 percent, grease your bearing, blow it down with hose, new plug, then take it to repair shop if its no better you ll only make it worse messing with the carb unless you re used to playing with them. If theres a bulb on the fuel line thats damaged it could be letting in air might be only a couple of quid and refit it? Maybe start saving a few pound for a different saw :(

This is very good advice for anyone with engines that are going to be idle for a while.
Lawnmowers, strimmers and the like aren't going to be used for 2-3 months and in that time the ethanol in the fuel will absorb water and turn into a sludge or corrode the inside of the carb.
5 litres of premixed Aspen is around 24 euro and has a 4yr shelf life, it also doesn't contain any Ethanol.
Emptying your tank and refilling with Aspen and running it until it is pulled through the system is a good way of preserving the internals of any machine over winter.
4 Strokes are particularly bad for being hard to start in the new season, just ask any small engine shop how many they have in the first week of grass growth.
