There is also a newer receiver coming out in the coming weeks. Along with recording, while watching it will also allow series linking:

Yes. Everytime you go to record a show it asks "Record once" or "Record series". It should then automatically record every episode in the series.

This box is not available yet. It was due out last August, latest date is next week.....

I got one in DID for 80 Euro (for parents in law) before the switch and DID still have it at that price. I didn't find them cheaper online. Put a 16GB USB stick in it and works fine for recording for them.

Or pay 230 Euro for a series link box.... I know what one I'd go for.

    That's not the same

Daily records at the same time every day, and assumes the show you want is on
Weekly records at the same time the following week, and assumes the show you want is on.

Series link takes hidden program information as to what show is on and what episode in the series is currently on. It will then attempt to record the next episode no matter what day or time the show is aired. For example if "Fair-city" has an x-mas special on a different day this should catch it. Also if say they have a back to back double episode then it should record both. In theory if any episode is late to come on or early to come on, assuming the right data is sent, it should delay or advance recording.

It is quite different to a timed recording, or a single recording based on the TV guide times.

    Hi all,

Am not sure if I am in the right thread but I did a search and I think this one suits my question the best!

My parents have a Triax TR212. I want to get them an external hard drive that can do 2 things -
    1) record TV
    2) I can copy some videos onto the hard drive for them to watch through the TV

I was in some shops at the weekend and the sales assistant was trying to sell me a Toshiba 500GB external hard drive. The assistant also informed me that doing the 2 things with 1 hard drive is not possible as you have to format it every time you plug it out of the the TV.

I am not really an expert on these things but I was pretty surprised by this. Does anyone know if this is correct?

    Any help is mucho appreciated!

He is correct ... you would need two separate disks for the two completely and totally different functions .... I don't think a partitioning workaround is possible.

Is that a Triax 'thing' ?

I believe I had no trouble doing this with an Ariva 120 STB ..... a separate folder for the video files ...

..... but maybe my recollection is not as good as it should be .... :(
